Need Help Finding High Spin Driver

Buddy of mine coming off back surgery and his current Epic Flash Sub Zero driver isn't going to cut it for quite awhile. Just to low spin for his swing speed currently. I'm trying to find him a higher spinning driver for the time being as almost everything newer is just to low spin. Not looking to spend a pile of cash, just something to get him thru his recovery period. I was thinking some older Ping G15, 20, 25 SF models would work, or Cally Looking for suggestions. Thanks as always.

It would be easier to change golf balls, maybe adjust driver sleeve, and steepen AoA - Bam, you get more spin.

Just pick up an older 12 degree driver... they aren't usually built to be low spin... any of the old popular heads in 12 degrees should work just fine short term.

Any of the Higher MOI older heads should spin it.

 

But a higher spinning shaft and a ball change could just be a quick fix, He can keep his Sub Zero. I mean what spin are we looking.

 

1600rpms is low,  He wants 3000rps nothing a crappy ball and a drop in spinnier shaft could temporary fix. Once he gets his shape back slap in the old setting and be done.

 

3500+rpms is not beneficial for any driver anyways. Might as well just use a 3 wood then.

Those old PINGs you mentioned would be great options. 

 

Otherwise loft is the quickest way to more spin. The 12* option that @Myherobobhope mentioned would do the trick.

Depending on how long his recovery is and if he is actually going to be able to recover enough to generate his old speed, I'd go with what a lot of others are saying, ie new ball as a temporary fix?

G5 is still great,also G10, and im on my 3rd Rapture V1..all great value,3000plus rpm...

This might be too old but the R9 Supertri was a high launch/spin head.  They can be had for super cheap on the bay.

A used TS1 should do the trick.

Get a g20 with 10.5° loft and a regular shaft.  But, if he hits it longer than the -0,  maybe a lesson learned.

Some really good advice in this thread.  Someone mentioned change in golf balls, TXG found the new V2 Kirkland spun a bit more with the driver and might be an inexpensive option.  I’d also plug the more game improvement version of older cobra drivers, such as an F6.  I tried to play a Cobra LTD for awhile and it would just fall out of the air.  Went to an F6 and it worked well.

I can attest to @2Down g20 suggestion, and add g15.  Both drivers are spinners even in 9.5; I have both collecting dust in storage.

I've gone to the Titleist TSi1 for the same reason.  Or as an earlier poster mentioned--a used TS1 would do as well.

Adjust the cog to +2 degrees. That should add quite a bit of spin.

Can we assume that he has lost A LOT of speed from his back surgery?

If so, adjusting the settings or using a new ball is NOT going to be enough to keep the ball in the air.

 

Find him a lighter and softer shaft (50-55g regular flex) and a 12-13 degree head from any of the major OEM's in the last 4-5 years and he should be good to go.
