I'm pretty sure you could go back to the year Couples got in and he didn't make the minimum criteria but at the time someone had to be induced every year and he was closest. I stand to be corrected but thats how I remember it.

On DLIII after seeing some of his numbers and reading analysis here from posted I respect he probably does deserve to be in.So yes sometimes stuff on the internet can change your mind.

The "Couples loophole" was with voting percentage"65%, in the event that no candidate receives 65%, the
nominee receiving the most votes with at least 50% is elected"

He had more than 50% of the vote, but less than 65%

He met the minimum eligibility requirements at the time:

I've often seen these misinterpreted as induction requirements, but they're just a screening tool to keep the number of candidates manageable.

There is more to it than wins and majors which is why Couples in is and Pavin not.  Pavin briefly got as high as #2 in the rankings while Couples reached #1 and was Player of the Year on tour twice along with two Players Championship wins

You underestimate the importance of the moustache.

True, and he certainly won the US Open with inferior equipment.

Kaymer No 1 player in the world. And if 2 majors, a Players and a No.1 ranking don’t qualify you for the HoF we might as well not have one.

And before anyone says the Number 1 ranking doesn’t mean anything consider the level of sustained excellence required to get there.

Eh he’s just short of the total wins. He wasn’t a prolific winner. He won some big events, but never racked them

up. Lee Janzen has 2 majors and a Players and is nowhere near the HoF, his career was basically 6 years. Same for Kaymer - 6 years. That’s just not long enough IMO to make a Hall of Fame unless you totally dominate those 6 years and the end might even need to be at least a little tragic.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Length of career shouldn’t matter. If you win the Slam in one year and drop off the face of the Earth you’re still in IMO.  By your reckoning if Brooks never won again he wouldn’t get it in...

Here I was thinking it was the World Golf Hall of Fame. Clearly it’s just the PGA Tour Hall of Fame.

How many PGAT wins do you need if you’ve won 4 majors? Asking for a friend...

Kaymer is eligible for the WGHOF solely due to his 2 major wins. Doesn't mean he will be voted into the WGHOF. The WGHOF website explains a players eligibility clearly. Too many people in these threads only look at what a player has done on the PGA Tour. First mistake.

Here is the current eligibility criteria.

A player must have a cumulative total of 15 or more official victories on any of the original members of the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour, Asian Tour and PGA of Australasia) OR at least two victories among the following events: The Masters, THE PLAYERS Championship, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

Ugh. He’s eligible to be on the ballot. Not the same thing as being inducted.

Ugh, that’s what he said.

Guys if we’re going to argue can we at least read the whole post?
