The Champions Tour seems like it's going to be really fun for the next decade

Since someone mentioned the Champions Tour I’ll take this opportunity to do some fat shaming. (I don’t feel great about it but I’m feeling a little insecure at the moment) I caught a little bit recently and was shocked when they showed Darren Clarke. I hadn’t seen him since his PGA tour days. Whoa, he looks like he ate his caddy! Was also as surprised when I Googled him and saw that he’s only 52. Looking at him I would have guessed 60. But God bless him for fully embracing and enjoying the good life!

*Feel free to flame me for my shallow take. I know I’m being petty. Haha

I think the top regulars on the Champions Tour need to send Steve Stricker a thank you for not competing regularly.  Stricker's been playing (and competing) more out on the "big" tour.

I'm not sure if he's using his status as Ryder Cup Captain just to gain invites in the hope of catching one final win.  Or, if he's out there for Ryder Cup purposes.  But, he's one of the few seniors that have kept his putting stroke into his 50s, and that's usually the tiebreaker in these events.

The problem with the senior tour, going forward, is that big name players make so much money before 50 that a lot of them won't want to travel and play and keep up their games.

You'd think a guy like dimarco would have gotten more serious about the senior tour. He basically had like 10 good years on tour and then retired.

"Chubby has always said that I play better fat," Clarke said replied. "I've obviously been adhering to that theory."

When I made my post I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say one or all of the following.

1) Yeah, but he’d still destroy you on the course.

2) Yeah, but he’s made (insert net worth acquired via Google search)

3) Yeah, but his wife/GF is smoking hot.

Was going to PM this to you, but figured I'd put it out here for all.

I was a fat infant. A fat toddler. A fat child. A fat teen. A fat young adult. And now a fat middle-aged adult. My mom (rest her amazing soul) said I would drink two bottles ridiculously quickly and still want more. I have a huge appetite ... for everything in my life. Always have.

At 40 years old, I had weight loss surgery. I am 6' tall and at the time, weighed 330 lbs. I lost nearly 100 lbs and got down to 232 within one year post-surgery. For the first time in my adult life, I felt attractive, vital, and more "alive" than I had ever felt in my life. And all it took(!!) was having my insides altered so that I couldn't jam food down my gullet whenever I wanted to. And even though I felt and looked better than I ever had in my entire adult life, I gained most of it back within 8 years. Sigh ....

Here's a look at how absurdly difficult it is for significantly overweight to obese patients to lose weight and keep it off. This is data from the U.K.. It's ... sobering. Or should be, for anyone with a loved one who is obese.

image.png.f7a3005a91588c0f294f3528d58a3309.png

Here's the whole study for those interested: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4539812/#:~:text=A target of 5% body, maintained effects on body weight.

And this isn't new data. We've known for a long time that obesity/food addiction, like drug addiction, is an absolute scourge. It's not lack of "willpower." It's not lack of character. It's not lack of caring. It's ... something else. Or, perhaps it is a lack of willpower. But it it is, it sure seems like something some of us are born with (like intelligence, hand-eye coordination, etc.) and there's not much we can do about it one way or the other.

I'll close with this: On a micro level, of course every fat person should do they best they can do lose weight however they can. But on a macro level, it just doesn't seem to matter much what one does once one becomes obese ....

Being in the fitness industry I have seen and experienced this with many clients. I’ve had a few clients that have had the same surgery as you. For some it is indeed an addiction, for others it is a matter of lifestyle choice. Also metabolism plays a huge role. Where one person can eat a cheeseburger, fries and a shake 3x a week and not gain any weight, another can gain 5lbs just looking at a cheeseburger. I’m light hearted and joke about it here, but do understand on a serious level how difficult it is for people that truly feel hopeless/powerless against their addiction. Thank you for sharing your story 🙏🏼 And apologize if I offended you.

DC has my friend and swing instructor Sandy Armour on his bag, and Sandy has him swinging the club well and putting very well, he can still contend at courses of about 7K in length...I actually think he will be around the first two days on the board at Royal St George for the Open, I know the two of them are looking forward to the Open

I started golf in 2000 and pretty much most of the guys that were competitive in that decade are now in the Champions tour.  Watching my boy Mike Weir compete and win in a long time made me feel I was in my 30s again.

Things will get really interesting when Tiger will be eligible down the road...

Is it true that the Champions Tour is not financially self-reliant and that the PGA Tour partially funds it? I got into a twitter spat over this last weekend.

The PGA Tour financially subsidizes the Champions Tour, KFT and all of it's smaller feeder tours. Always have.

Regular Tour has gotten boring except for the majors and TPC.   Kudos to Dicky Pride.  What a clutch weekend rounds of golf.  Love it when the journeymen guys pull through.

I guess I'll go against the grain, don't really enjoy watching it at all. I'd rather see more KFT coverage. Maybe it's because of Lanny, not sure.
