2021 PGA Championship - Phil!

Recommended Posts

Brooks Koepka, feeling down on his putting: "That was the worst putting performance I think I've ever had in my career. Can't get much worse." High expectations! Koepka was actually above-average on the day, gaining .09 shots on the field with the putter...

BK using Psy war tactics on the field (and apparently, several WRXers)

So I’m watching the ESPN+ coverage this morning and Stenson took two practice swings in a bunker taking sand with each one. Is this allowed now or only if you’re out of contention?

Interesting note of this course: no actual bunkers. All sand areas are free from the normal rules of bunker play. Players may ground clubs, take practice swings, etc.

Koepka price a bit short or what with 18 holes to go,and stronger winds than Saturday, only 2.84 on the exchanges,UK

I’d say about right.  I’m not sure how increased wind favors Koepka.  He’s not exactly known for low flighted shots.  It probably favors the South Africans more than anyone. Plus jordan spieth.  Although he’s too far back.

Random thoughts:

I am really looking forward to this final round. I only hope that it doesn't become boring early on with Koepka being the only one to play solid golf and everybody else falling victim to their particular weaknesses, Phil to errant tee shots, Louis to his ice cold putter and Streelman to his lack of length.

BTW Phil:

Being concerned in his conversation with the rules official that his lie in the bunker was BETTER than before after replacing his ball on Louis' footmark.
Stating that Louis' tee shot had crossed the hazard line way ahead and that his own hadn't.

Does anybody else play a drinking game, which involves the expression "sandy area"?

What ist Vern Lundquist good for?
"And now, Brendan Grace"
"And now, back to 12"

Vern, sir, is off limits.  Have some respect.

Well the PGA is normally the least interesting Major of the year, but so far it has been absolutely terrific. Great course layout, loads of wind and some stellar golf being played, should be a blast later today

Agree.  Brilliant tournament and venue.

Can't wait for Phil and Brooks to tee off.

avrag!

I wonder if Phil, or certain players, will look to score and be aggressive  on the front 9 or play it cool.

I could see Phil thinking he wants to go low going out and then see if he can play conservatively coming home with a lead.

BK seem like he just plays his game, not take chances,  and anticipates others blowing up on Sundays at majors.

If Phil can get hot and pad a good lead, he could force BK to take chances coming in.

I have a feeling we see Phil get wild off the tee and needing some Phil magic to bring this home. I just hope if he has a lead he doesn’t do any “Phil being Phil” dumb@ss moves ; )

I want to ask this before getting starting on the coverage today.. What exactly is Mickelson doing with his hands on his putter? What’s the “click” going on here? His hands looks perfect on the grip.. a lot like how Koepka’s hands are in perfect harmony on his putter. And both players’ subtle hands during the rhythm of their strokes is the best of the leaderboard. Noticeable difference.

Phil is going to win. Brooks is a washed up loser that will be selling used cars within three years. Book it!

LOL  You are probably just trolling but you might want to consider the fact that BK makes more on a weekend playing golf than you will slaving away 50 weeks a year for the rest of your life.

Sunday in a major. We’ve got Streelman, Oosthuizen, and Koepka within three of Phil’s -7 (BK one back). Grace and Bezuidenhout next at -3. Woodland and DeChambeau at -2.

Any names there pique you’re interest?

I’m gonna rule out Streelman, and the South Africans... I think there’s “a thing” with them not cashing in on majors since the early 2010s,, especially LO,, since he should have won at least two more. And I think they know it.

Woodland is interesting.. I don’t see him as a comeback king, but his game suits this place, and I think his short game is priming.

BAD can go low and take it. Period.

(Did Matsuyama fall in the ocean here...? I’m on my recording - back nine on Saturday.)

Random thought: I like that they can make practice swings from waste areas (bunkers) throughout, good way of feeling whether or not its hard of soft under the ball. Makes no sense to me that regular play doesn't allow to ground in a bunker but now able to ground club in a hazard.

Maybe a pace of play concern for regular folks but doesn't make much sense.
