IMO, Nantz is getting tiresome, droaning and boring.

Nantz is like Skynet now.  He has become self-aware and therefore dangerous.  Many (most?) people involved in sports have become accustomed to these sports talk show or podcast long-form interviews in which they do their I'm-just-a-normal-guy-who-likes-a-burger-and-a-beer routine.  NFL coaches pretend not to be crazed football OCD types, Tour players pretend to be humble about their abilities etc.

Nantz is having none of this proletarian nonsense.  Perhaps he gets points for being true to himself but his 'candor' involves discussing his home on Pebble Beach GL with its miniature par 3 hole and stories of having Nick Faldo over for a cookout, his awarding-of-personal-endorsement-Vineyard-Vines-necktie to an NCAA champion, his busy first two weeks in April doing March Madness and immediately going to Augusta, and his wine business.

To be fair, Nantz and his NBC counterpart Dan Hicks have the thankless task of shoehorning sponsor mentions and channel promos into every idle moment.  Network suits still believe that they can generate audience overlap between a major golf championship and the ridiculous Queen Effing Latifah ridiculously cast as The Equalizer in an even more ridiculous remake of a show and a film that were ridiculous in the first place.

And yours? Weren’t you one of the guys saying the course was so tough only the very top of the tour would survive? Phil, Higgs, Harrington, Rickie , Ancer, Streelman all top 10.

Perhaps I misremembered but I thought you posted that.  I’m too lazy to check and apologize if you did not.

Could have but I don’t remember having that thought.  In fact I’d say no I didn’t without looking.   I do however recall saying that Bruce couldn’t win if his putter didn’t make a fast 180.  And was assured that “ he’d kill Bambi if need be .... he’s ice cold “.  He’s a giant baby  with a currently cold putter. And an awful goatee.

Edited to add, couldn’t find that discussion so apologies to @bladehunter

Id rather do this than edit previous post and hope no one saw it.🙄

No worries.  If the right train of thought hit me I could have easily said something similar.  I absolutely didn’t predict Phil wining until Saturday night.  And even then it was more a prediction that Brooks wouldn’t win.  And that someone else would  shoot a good round and win.  So only half correct I guess.

One of the great moments in golf history.

We've been lucky to witness a few of them recently - Tiger at the Tour Championship and The Masters, now Phil.

These are moments that will still be remembered as if it were yesterday 30+ years from now.

Just so pleased for Phil Mickelson.

"This looks like a job for Super Phil!"

It was a bit of a roller coaster ride (and not just for Phil) on Sunday but he held his ground when he needed to, well done Phil!

I've been lucky enough to see Jack's win at 46, Tiger at 43, Boros at 48,  and now Phil at 51... as the man said... "Brother, now I have seen everything.."

I thought about this last night. I don't know if I can get happy for someone with that amount of cash as much as I am happy for his fans, who are now happy, and the game of golf in general which has seen success now stretch into 5 decades of life, thus making a lot of people happy knowing this game can be enjoyed and played competitively for a long time.

The above makes me feel like a bad person. 😞

While I like the course and love the Lowcountry, I think having events only infrequently at Kiawah keeps it somewhat mysterious and magical - Brigadoon-like.

Dottie Pepper related an interesting anecdote:  in prior tournaments, the crowd walking through all the sea oats knocked the seed tops off and the seeds were scattered around the property.  Some of them to germinate in the turf areas of the course, causing problems.

If you've been to the coast eg Lowcountry or Outer Banks, you know that usually sea oats are zealously protected because they are usually the only thing keeping the dunes in place and thus keeping the beaches somewhat stable.  Unfortunately, in the case of the Outer Banks, a direct hit by a hurricane meant that the dunes held up fairly well but the beach below them was badly eroded.

I'm nobody's idea of an environmentalist but tidal islands have always been at risk of being taken back by nature.  Having large crowds there over multiple days on frequent occasions would only exacerbate problems.

Extremely good point. As a frequent visitor in my younger days to both coasts ( sc and nc 😂)   I’d agree.... kiawah doesn’t need to be overrun often.  It’s a fragile place in reality.  Never know when another Hugo will show up.

Here is a more fleshed out article on what took place on 18 today. Won't change the Koepka haters here view on his but read and learn for once.

Maybe the PGA should have allowed this to happen on 18 today.

The Titleist PR folks are busy trying to remove that photo from the internet.  Cleetus there doesn't fit their "demographic".

And possibly they are joined in the effort by The Citadel - it might be a wayward ring-wearing alumnus whose hair, grooming and shirt tuck aren't regulation anymore.

But golfers of that caliber are megarich.  Nicklaus in 86, Tiger in 19.  The huge wallet is attached to them, I don't understand what the reference is about.  Even they have the right to compete and win tournaments.
