R. Bland WITB driver

Just read the WRX newsletter. The obvious question not answered was what driver got replaced and with what. If I heard Mr. Bland correctly, he missed ONE fairway in four rounds, and it was by inches. This is a WITB story that needs told.

Driver: TaylorMade M2 (10.5 deg) with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana Kai’li shaft.

 

3-Wood: TaylorMade SIM Max (15 deg) with a Fujikura Ventus Red shaft.

 

5-Wood: TaylorMade Burner Superfast (18 deg) with a Mitsubishi Chemical Diamana shaft. 

 

Irons: Titleist U500 (3,4). Honma Tour World Proto (5-PW).

 

Wedges: TaylorMade Milled Grind Hi-Toe (54,58 deg).

 

Putter: Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7.

 

Ball: Titleist Pro V1.

 

How He Did It

Having switched back to his old TaylorMade M2 driver, Blandy  hit a field leading 47 fairways for the week and averaged 272 yards.  That was the foundation for 59 greens found in regulation with his Honma Tour World Proto irons (2nd in the stats). On the greens the Southampton fan's 119 putts total (T63 in the field) with his Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7 didn't tell the full story of a Tour record setting one bogey over 72 holes versus 14 birdies.  The win jumps Bland from 218th to 134th in the latest World Golf Rankings.

Driver=If it ain't broke, why fix it?

 

Same for his 5 metal.  I see more guys nowadays going back to their ole' trusty drivers.  This proves that the latest and greatest isn't always the best.  This is coming from someone who switches out drivers like his underwear.
