  • mvhoffman changed the title to Update 6/9: Amazon - Kingrasp Grips

So I wanted to do a little update on these grips.  I will again start by saying that I never expected to like these.  I never thought they were going to be worth the money ($29) and I actually started the return on Amazon as soon as I got them.

With that being said, I was COMPLETELY WRONG.  These grips are wonderful.  I played again Sunday morning and they simply just performed.  They are firm and responsive yet very absorbing to vibration.  They still allow you to feel the good and bad but it is a dull feeling instead of a hand hurting twing.  Now I will say that I kind of wish they were black, but the red is just fine.

I have not played in rain yet with these and i hope that they perform just as good as any other grip would.  If they perform somewhat decent in the rain then I will go out on a limb and say these have the potential to be the best grips I ever used.

They should give you a royalty.  I guess with this post made people try it.  I don't see any sold anymore.  Hope they work out in the rain for you.

These are excellent grips. I have to wonder where some folks imagine O.E.M. grips are produced. I imagine 90% of all grip production takes place in about six factories in China, Tawain or Thailand.

This would include “Golf Pride” grips- so expensive they’ve become ridiculous. And other O.E.M’s semm to be marching in step.

I appreciate a small company like this with an excellent product at a reasonable price!6E8147D4-B358-46CE-B397-6A6E26E11BF8.jpeg.bb751662b25baafd1a5b696b63af200b.jpeg

I have tried grips from some off brands with varying degree of success over the years. Black Widow turned to hard plastic in a few months, Karma was nice initially but worn down pretty quickly and then got hard. So far my fav was these Champkey ribbed, and some Yamato NDMC look alike. I say look alike because they are not corded at the top.

Both are dirt cheap, feel great and lasted quite some time. The Champkeys have been on a set for 3 years now and are still soft and tacky. Yamato was from earlier this year and barely showing any wear.

I know people want to make fun of these <$30/set grips as counterfeits and smell bad. Yes the Yamato smelled like rubber for a day coming out of the bag but that's what your tires smell like too brand new. I don't sniff tires or grips so it's no issue for me. LOL

Cheap grips are now a dime a dozen on Amazon. For $30 a set, I can change them every 3 months, always have brand new grips and still come out ahead. I just think the price of Golf Pride is getting rediculous. I mean $15+ per grip and expected life is only a few months? It's literally just a piece of rubber for crying out loud.

Sharpro used to make a dual compound grip that I actually liked the texture of better than MCC. I don't know if they went out of business but the only downside was having to order some every time I added a club vs being able to find them locally. Price doesn't always mean they are better, I might have to explore some others.

Sharpro was actually the one that invented dual compound grip. It went out of business in 2009.

Those grips were BAD.  I remember selling them at the Big Box store I worked at for about a season.  You would see more people come through with grips that looked shiny with those than any other.  We also knew they weren't that old because we only had them in stock for a year.  Sharpro was pretty good, however, but they disappeared really fast.   We also used to run a special on a brand called Kelmac.  It was something like $25 installed for 13 grips.  They had a tour wrap style that wasn't the worst but their TV style was pretty bad.  I regripped a backup set once with their TV cord and they were okay, but they were very thin and had almost no rubber on them so it was akin to just gripping the steel, but for like $1/grip, I couldn't complain.

To add to this and seeing the other threads on grip cost, I am beginning to think it is worth it to splurge on grips that last.  Obviously, for those of us who change clubs frequently, absolutely find the best deal you can.  However, if you are someone who holds on to their clubs for several seasons and also play a lot, it makes sense to me to play Leather grips or something like the Iomics that are initially about 2-3x more expensive but they last forever with some TLC.  Leather will basically never wear out and Iomic, if taken care of, can last 4-5 seasons of moderate use in my experience.  Of course, on the flip side to this argument, if you find a value grip like the OP did that is actually good, you can get a full set of grips for basically the cost of 2 of these more expensive grips and change them out once or twice a year without worry.

The standard or ribbed Tour Velvet grips from Golf Pride are $5.99 ($6.49 for midsize).

The set that came on my T300's have eight months, nearly 90 rounds on them and still look and feel pretty much brand new.

The BCT cord ones are a little pricier at $11.49 but still nowhere near 15 bucks.

Now if you want to talk about NDMC, that's an overpriced grip that starts getting hard and slick the day you put in on the club. But the old-school Golf Prides remain a solid choice IMHO.

There was a grip years ago that was amazing and I think it was the go to for most component companies.  The Pro T grip company.  They made a corded velvet grip that was unreal.  i still have one on a wedge from 10+ years ago and it is really still good.

Even at $6 sale price, GPTV would still run you $70+ for a set of 13. That would be pretty much triple of the basic kits you get with those OTHER brands.

The older NDMC was exactly like you said but the newer ones seem to have improved somewhat. I don't know why the rubber in the corded section just doesn't seem to be as durable as it should be.

In any case, I am perfectly happy with these other brands that are dirt cheap these days so haven't even bothered to even check the prices on GP or Lamkin for some time. I just know they are expensive. LOL

Yeah those were REALLY BAD.. so much so that I have to say it again. No doubt the worst I have every tried.

Cheap grips don't necessarily mean they do not last, and expensive ones don't always last either. Older NDMC was only slightly better than those Black Widows when it comes to turning slick, and the newer ones seem to be only marginally better. What was the model of GP Tour velvet with wavily lines? Rubber was so thin and soft and it was coming off if you just touched it

That's why I no longer bother with expensive grips, and I don't even expect any of them to last. At least I wouldn't be too disappointed when the cheap ones gone bad.
