Shipping to a different address than his verified Paypal address?

Lots of scams going around..

I sold a club to a member, and he wants the club sent to a different address than what's on his Paypal account.

I guess he lives out of the country, so he ships to a different address, and they forward the club to him.

Would you?

He asked me to check his feedback, but with all the site changes, he doesn't have any since 2016..

That's a no go for me. He should change his address on Paypal to whatever he wants it to deliver to.

My guy had no address registered with PayPal , being he lived in Mexico, but used a forwarding service like the global shipping program with eBay. I might be hesitant to move something with significant value this way though.

He's been a member since 2005.. that's a long time.

He bought something from another member, I sent that member a PM.

I'm guessing it's legit. Still leery though. I hate getting scammed.

The one thing that's in your benefit , if it is a forwarding service , once its delivered to the original location within the states , I don't believe you can be held accountable after the  initial delivery , being that's the address within PayPal.

The Paypal address is in Panama, the address he wants the club shipped to is Florida.

This is my concern.

Given the logistical nightmare that is 2021, I would avoid this even if it costs you the sale. (unless it's low dollar) I've had more USPS, UPS, FedEx packages lost this year for my work than I can believe. The odds are simply not in your favor here.

I found this old thread , can't be certain of its relevance , but you might want to give PayPal a ring and see what they say concerning freight forwarders , if you consider it.

Feedback scores were restored. If he doesn't have any feedback since 2016, then he didn't have any feed back since 2016.

Literally done this many times. I bought something and wanted it shipped to where I was going to be, or shipped to my brother as a surprise present for him etc. PayPal is pretty safe and secure when it comes to transactions in my opinion, and while I am firing from the hip I don't really see what the potential scam would be? Since you shipped after receiving funds?

Had a situation this week were the buyer was located in Manila and paid through PayPal without a verified address.  Requested I ship to some mail forwarding service in NY.  I advised I will be refunding and require a verified address.  Will not deal with buyers without verified address.

Mail to the listed address on the PayPal receipt.  Not worth the headache in my opinion considering you would lose your seller protection through PayPal.  My two cents.

Not shipping to the verified address within the PayPal transaction results in the loss of seller protection.  A simple "I never received it" will result in a refund for the buyer.  Boom, scammed.

Edit: If you want to ship to were you are going and/or surprise a sibling, list that address as a "verified address" with your paypal account and request the package sent to said address.

Strong no. Did it once to El Paso, the guy crossed from Juarez and picked it up from his cousin. Worked out, second time the address I was given (the non PayPal one) can’t make this up, the unit number of the Pool maintenance shed at the condo complex the buyer lived in. Fortunately, the mail carrier who left it sitting there, grabbed it a few days later and routed back. The buyer emailed me wondering what happened. The tracking showed delivered and returned. I canceled and refunded.

Gotcha! I hadn’t the slightest clue that was a thing tbh, I just set it up and go. Sellers had always been great accommodating such requests on here and other sites. Thanks!!

My understanding must be off.

How do you “verify” an address that isn’t yours?

My understanding is that to have a confirmed address the physical address has to be the same as the billing address on your payment method.

Hi Everyone,  I am the one who made the transaction with gdb99.

I live in Panama, and the paypal system will not let me add a shipping address outside the country.

Member here since 2005, and made many transactions until 2016 (all shipped to FL), before I stepped away from the game.  Made my first purchase last week after many years, and hope to have some more.  I fully understand the concern of providing my FL forwarders' address.  As I tell all sellers, once the item is delivered to this address, his responsibility ends there.  I bear the cost and risk for transportation from FL.   Never had an issue yet with my forwarder.

At the end, it is all trust based.  And I recommend to contact previous sellers about the transactions.

Correct, your “verified” address is the address associated with banking information however, my point was you should select the preferred address within the PayPal transaction rather than providing “xyz” and asking it to be shipped to “abc” outside of PayPal.  PayPal is your vehicle for protection.  Providing no address or request to ship to another address would be considered unverified in my book.  Did not me to be literal with regards to “verified” “.  In the situation without a an address typically means it’s a PayPal account outside of the US and therefore is not verified.

FYI per PayPal;

Although your home address is the default, you can add alternative addresses for yourself or for gifts sent to other people. PayPal also lets you associate credit cards with your own alternative shipping addresses.

Edit; Simple terms, you can have multiple shipping address within your PayPal account and should select preferred address for purposes of delivery.  Not selecting a address and selecting an address and then asking for it to be shipped elsewhere outside of PayPal would be unverified for me.  Hope that makes sense.

My rule is simple - I ship to verified Paypal addresses period - end of story, no exceptions. I dont care how nice the buyer is, I dont do it.

Also - and no offense to the current buyer in this case - but we have had more than a few "issues" pop up in the last 18 months with "older" members. Just because someone has been here a long time isn't necessarily a reason to change your personal policies.

From seller perspective, shipping to an "unverified" address leaves us completely exposed with Paypal. I have been around here long enough to remember when first wave of scammers hit this site, selling things asking for F&F payment, buying things asking to get shipped elsewhere, then file claim that they did not receive their item. As far as Paypal is concerned, only shipping to a verified address and delivery proof reliefs seller from responsibility. Shipping to an unverified address is an automatic judgement against seller, resulting in funds being pulled back and of course nothing would be returned.

It's great that you are an honest person. However, in your case, you should have your forwarder set up verified address and pay for the paypal transaction. Only then it would make it such that seller's responsibility ends with the forwarder receiving the item.
