Hole from Sunday...what are you hitting?

It’s about 180 or so to cover the short high grass and bunker short...green is rather large.

This confirms, 4 iron and will likely be a little short but playable.

No one asked the front or back yardages?

My game isn't good enough to pin seek, so I look for front and back yardages. So 225 to the pin and it's a big green? Lets say the pin is in the middle... 200 to front and 240 to the back? 240 is my driver and although it's pretty reliable I don't know that I'd trust it to find a green. Same with my 3W, which is about 225. My 4H is 215 and I'd trust it enough to get me close to the green or even dancing. 4I is 205, and with a preferred lie I'd trust it as much as my hybrid.

Answer, 4H or 4i to the front and hope I'm dancing.

It was 255 to the pin. 180 to cover. Back is about 280.

I would struggle between my 4w and driver.  Distance wise it is driver, especially since you have 280 to the back.  Dispersion wise goes to my 4w, and a left miss is better.  But It would most likely land short and hope for a good bounce.  What is funny is if this is a par 4, I'm going for it every time and probably hitting driver.

And this is why it absolutely matters when a course is made to play as a par 70 instead of a 72 in tournaments (even though it doesn't).

There is a 270ish par four on a course I play a bunch.  Driver brings the trouble long, ob left and bunkers right into play but it is a big green.  I have gone back and forth on how best to play it.  Coming up just short and pitching close is not glamorous but yields a pretty good score most of the time.  Laying back to 100 yards or so is fair as well.  Hitting driver has almost always been either eagle/easy birdie or disaster.

Anymore I like getting it as far down as my swing that day will allow.  It is the second hole on the course so you typically don't know exactly what swing you have brought to the course that day then.

To be honest, I would've moved up a box.

If I had to play there, it would be my Apex 3 hybrid.

I can get 220 off the tee with decent accuracy and spin to hold the green if struck well.

Wind in my face and I'd have to use my G425 2 hybrid.

Struck well, gets me a 240 carry with a lot of roll. Maybe I could roll it on if the wind knocked it down.

I wouldn't be playing from that tee in reality lol, but in this situation with my current physical issue, it's most likely going to be driver, pitch on and hope for a 2 putt. If I'm %100 healthy, it's still driver, but I might reach it, and hope for a 2 putt.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a bogey on that hole.

Slightly down hill so I'm assuming it will play closer to about 240.  If that's the case, I would hit my UDI and try to get the ball high up in the air as possible.

Depending on the wind and the amount of down hill... probably my 3H, but possibly my 4H or the 3W if the wind is into me.

After looking at the overhead, there seems to be a lot of room but also a lot of places you could end up that are bad.  I'd probably hit a 4 iron or something I know I can keep in play and dump on the short grass and then just rely on a pitch/chip.  Keep the big number away and make sure a bogey is what I walk away with.  If this were an amateur event, more than likely the average score would be closer to a 4 than a 3 so you wouldn't be losing much ground with a bogey.

Is that entire area in the flyover the green? It looks massive. Probably a 3 iron or 2 hybrid depending on pin/wind direction.

It looks like you can tell the actual green (which has been mowed) from the dew-covered area of fairway length grass surrounding it. Only the central 1/3 or so of that open area is putting surface.

Man - I love playing the occasional hole like this, but it would drive me bonkers if I had to do it every round.

I think (and I emphasize the word think) it would be a perfect 5 wood if the conditions were right (no wind). I carry that club around 245ish. If the fan is on, I could maybe get a 4 iron to the front edge, but it would need to be absolutely pured as that's a club I typically carry about 215.

I would hit a lob driver shot. On occasion, I've had runaway drives when hitting off a hill (too much rollout).

Played a similarly long par 3 last week at Sunridge Canyon in Fountain Hills, AZ. Great course by the way. But playing the golds as they call them (blue tees) at 6426 total yards and stumble upon #8 - the slightly uphill 235 yard par 3. wind 10mph straight at us. Pulled the 5 wood pin high to 40 feet.
