PXG Gen 4 XF vs G425 Max Driver

Just got finished hitting both of these drivers over the last 2 days.  I found the G425 Max to be much more forgiving, longer and more consistent.  They both were pretty equally matched when struck in the center......PXG a little less distance.  But on off center hit where I mostly hit it, the G425 Max was clearly superior in still going straight and much less loss of distance.  I was fitted for both drivers.   Alta CB in the G425 and Riptide CB in the 0811XF Gen 4.  I consider myself pretty average and not a big hitter with a driver SS in the low 90's and a 14HC.   Just boxed up the Gen4 and sent it back for a refund.  I have to say I am pretty underwhelmed by PXG woods.  So far I've demo'd the PXG proto+ driver and woods in addition the the Gen 4 XF.  None of them gave the G425 or the G410's a run for their money.  I wanted to share for anyone else considering any of these clubs.  Maybe they will work for you but the G425's def live up to the hype and reviews I have read recently.

I did not get along well with the PXG Gen4 XF. For me, PXG Proto + blows them both away.

Yes it does. My buddy had a fitted 425 Max and after a few rounds he went back to his Proto and hitting it much better. Ping makes great clubs and they are very forgiving.

I tried both the Proto X+ and the Gen 4 XF and they were both disasters for me.  Mishits were very penalized for me.

Proto+ when paired with the right shaft for me had beaten out in this order: TM SIM Tour Issue (high CT face), Cobra Speedzone Extreme, TM SIM2MAX (interchangeable distance and forgiveness/ edge in sound to Proto+), and the PXG Gen4X. When the weights are set up correctly it’s as good as it gets. The only reason Ping G425max wasn’t in my testing earlier this year was the sound.

I am using a Ventus Blue in a 10.5 Proto+....,I own: a Gen4 XF, Sim2 and TSi2.... none are close to taking the Proto+/Ventus blue combo from the bag. Even had my pro (who is a Titleist loyalist) compare and contrast. He validated the choice of the Proto + 

 

P.S. The PXG Gen4 Ps are FANTASTIC ! They, too, easily beat out T200s and P790s for me.

Gen4 P’s were very, very good in my fitting. Did I say good?? Meant great.

Just picked up a Gen 4 XF.  So far I think it feels and sounds much better than the 425 Max and more neutral.  I could not stop hooking the 425.  Now I need to take it to the course

I agree the sound was better and it does set up more neutral but I found the Gen 4 XF not nearly as forgiving as the 425 Max, which is something I need.  Off center strikes with the Gen4 were noticeably punished on distance and compared to the Ping. The Ping just goes long and straight for me.

 

Curious is you moved the weight to the fade position on the 425.  Moving the weight definitely has an effect on ball flight.
