New (May 2021) Cobra 3D Printed Putters

What are your thoughts on the new 3D printed putters with the SIK face tech from Cobra. I read that the first attempt at 3D printed putters didn't feel great, but we'll see how these go. If nothing else, Cobra does try to push the tech bar in a way that other OEMs aren't currently going (MIM tech, 3D printer, first OEM to offer Arccos in grip).

I definitely want to try out the mallet in an armlock to see if it works for me. This seems like a genuinely different kind of tech. It will be interesting to see if they can pull Bryson over to a full Cobra bag.

The 3D printed ones are good for that technology coming to the mass market but I personally don't like the look on those. The traditional ones are much nicer to my eyes, but it's good seeing Cobra back into the putter game and the SIK face tech getting into the hands of more players.

I think the Agera looks cool on TV (wasn't Dufner using it?)

I don't think I'd like it in person...  I do think the SIK face is a nice idea.

Bryson won't switch because he is part owner of SIK

I feel like SIK is still getting paid licensing fees for every cobra putter sold. And this will definitely make the tech more attainable For people since the SIK putters are very expensive, and these seem relatively reasonable

I rolled the Agera tonight - 37.5" version (I game 37"-38" length putters).  I had my 38" Spider EX with me and it was interesting to putt them side by side.  I like my larger Pistol GT 2.0 grip on the Spider, but as an Arccos user I do like the integrated tech.  The SIK face rolled the ball really well but I was on the fence with the feel, but then again I'm not super happy with the feel of the Spider (but I already own it and have a touch of buyers remorse only due to the feel).  I'm waiting for the White Hot face on the 2-ball Ten to hit the market on 6/1.

I rolled these a few months ago as my local shop (Moon Golf in a Melbourne, FL) had every model. They weren’t for sale and they didn’t know if/when they would be coming to production. I’m also a lefty and they only had RH. But I loved the feel of the fang model. I offered to do all kinds of awful things if they could get me a LH version with no luck.

they disappeared soon after and I’ve sorta forgotten about them, till now. Looks like every LH is out of stock on Cobras website so I might try and up the ante with the shop.

I got the nova-40 (vintage) and I’m really surprised at how much I like it. The added sight lines really help me out when aiming, and so far the SIK face has been good enough to make me want to look into a SIK putter too.

Can’t speak for the 3D ones themselves, but I’m really enjoying the vintage.

I got a chance to roll them at my local PGATSS. I really liked the Supernova, and was surprised how compact the heads were. The picture make them look like they're going to be huge. All in all I think Cobra will do well with them.

Went to a few different stores and was able to try out most of the putters in the new line, I ended up buying the Agera. Not in love with the looks but couldn't beat the accuracy of it. I do with the top was a darker color but its really easy to line up and for a heavier putter it doesn't feel like one. I ended up cutting mine down to 33 inches as that's what I play and replaced the grip with a Super Stroke SS2R. Took it out last night and really enjoyed it! The SIK face feels different than my SIK Sho putter but puts a great roll on the ball and is consistent even on miss hits.

The tech has been used by National Custom for a few years on putters now, nothing new. Saw a great quote about the Cobra putters the other day, "they 3d print a couple parts of the putter, yet call it 3d printed. A true success would be 3D printing the entire thing like other companies already do." Based on their own description, the only thing they are 3D printing is the face.

It shouldn't feel any different than any other putter really since the whole head isn't 3D printed. They are using it for MOI and weight savings. Would be like claiming a new company invented the Anser head design but just put rounded bumpers on a putter. To be more accurate, they should say a portion is 3D printed.

From Cobra "The KING Grandsport features an oversized blade shape, and a multi-material construction utilizing a 3D printed lattice cartridge, a forged aluminum crown, tungsten weighting, and SIK FaceTechnology to deliver unmatched stability and consistency on every putt."

Interested in the feel comparisons between your two putters. I'm assuming the SIK Sho feels better due to being a solid, stainless head whereas the Cobra is an aluminum insert.

The Cobra has a little more "click" to it but feels softer than the SIK. Even though the SIK is a smaller head than the Cobra the ball jumps off the face a bit faster. They both feel nice in different ways, need to play the Cobra a few more rounds to really get a good feel for it.

I rolled these  and the vintage today. Really really good. Thoughts: of the 3d putters the agera was my favorite, very very stable through the stroke. Looks better in person than in pics. However i see why some are concerned with the chrome type finish on some of the top parts. Could be distracting on a sunny day. I actually liked the vintage nova the best of all. Felt a little light so i would probably order some weights. The feel on all these putters is spot on for me. How i would rate the feel from firmest to softest from what i rolled today:

evnroll
betti queen b

scotty ss

taylormade spyder

Tie-mizuno mcraft and cobra

oddysey white hot

ping 2021.

tied with mizuno is a perfect feel for me. Softer but not dull.

spyder seemed firmer but had a wierd dull feel. Ping was aweful (imo) felt like it had a rubber face.

All in all, cobra hit it out of the park, solid 9 out 10. If i had to buy a putter today it would be a nova. I really wish we could get the weights and grips we want free of charge, thats the only thing thats stopping me from buying really. Not so much money, but just annoying to have to buy a new club to have to tear it down and rebuild.

I picked up the supernova after trying it out on a cloudy day.  I will say that when it's sunny the glare does get pretty bad.  I want to try the vintage series fang style but I can't find it in any store.  I love the SIK face and the putt just seems to come off the club so nice.  My miss is usually  short as I play on fast greens.  I found that I am having no problem hitting it 1-2' past the hole without any change to my stroke.

Saw these in store today tried Vintage Nova or the Nova-40 I forget. But just curious how the insert feels compared to an actual SIK putter which I have. These definitely have a firmer feel due to the aluminum face but it's definitely not clicky depending on the ball you use.

But it felt stable, looked solid at address, not my shape preference but was nice and compact.

I think the Vintage line will be the more popular one due to the shapes, price and performance.

Well i just got my nova in the mail today and Im a little bummed out. Removed plastic to see this:

Had to be this way before shipping (no way it was damaged in shipping with plastic and headcover on). Hopefully cobra takes care of it but it gives me doubt on how this face will hold up over time.

These things must be super popular.  I've been trying to trade my Supernova in for the Nova and they never have it in stock!  I loved the feel of the supernova just I play in a very sunny area and the glare is so distracting on the supernova.

They have a very very good product. They have some quality control issues they need to work out though. Fragile face, shoddy paintfill, crooked grips. Even so, i still would buy mine again, its been that good and pleasing to putt with.

Can anyone compare the original one off model they originally released (supersport) to any of the newer 3d printed ones? Similar type of feel or is something drastically different between the versions. Guessing the grandsport vs the supersport would be one of the more "direct" comparisons.

Thanks!

I've recently been playing the King Vintage Torino putter.  It has my Ping 2021 DS 72 sitting in the corner.  The grip is fantastic (mine must have been put on straight!).  The feel is definitely firmer than the Ping (I agree with someone above that it's similar to the Mizuno putters and comparable to the Betti I had), but not harsh or clicky.  Alignment is super simple.  Very solid putter for the price.
