Nice weekend.  What stood out to you about both courses?  What did you make on 16 at CP?

cp was truly beautiful. I’ve never been to the MP so I just took it in. The ocean holes were nice, but I’ve played a lot of ocean holes. The inland holes were unreal. True shot to shot golf. Number 18 is a bad hole and didn’t enjoy that finish.

pasa was so relaxing. Old school right in front of you course. Love his design here and it was the type of course I could play every single day.

OK, I'm JEALOUS!!!!! Have not got to play Cypress yet, but Pasa is one of my all time favs. Like you said, I could never play that course too much.

I’ve heard a lot about it from buddies who played college golf and it went beyond expectations.

1 is a bear, 10 was crazy, 16-18 are incredible. Almost aced 18 with a little knock down 7 iron to a foot. Very cool experience.

My wife and I are playing Pasa as part of our Pebble trip later this year. I chose to add it to the itinerary based on the comments and feedback I've seen on this site and other places. It seems like most people absolutely love it.

I guess the only question I'd have is how difficult is it? I'm a 5 index, my wife is a 34. I'm probably going to play the whites, which are a little shorter than my home course. Also, what are our options for grabbing lunch afterwards?

You'll have no problems as 5.

I really don't know about the tees for a 34 though. The 3rd hole is way up the hill and there are some forced carries that might be a problem depending on how far she hits it.

It looks like her tee for hole 3 will be 157 yards. We have a similar hole at our home club which is very uphill, and I think it's about 125 for the ladies. But with the slope it plays like 140. She should be ok. Her rule is if she gets to a 10 on any hole, she picks up.

Nice shot on 18! That had to have the heart thumping. I just love the course. I made the longest put of my career on #16. The pin was back right, on the last tier about 15ft from the back and right edge. I hit a good tee shot, right in the middle of the fwy. Hit a fat pull 7 iron barely on the front left edge. And I made it from there.... I’m heading out there the end of August and can’t wait.

The grill in the clubhouse (McKenzie’s) and the restaurant ( Back 9 Bar and Grill) at the Inn are both good. If you want something else you can try Oswald, or Water Street Griil in Santa Cruz.

I believe that the MacKenzie Bar & Grill next to the Pro Shop is open.

For women with a higher index they have the Hollins Ladies tees which play to 4438

Sit outside on the balcony if the weather allows it.

Someone that used to be my golf teacher many years ago is now a caddie at Cypress Point. He would drive up to his friends driving range where I would take lessons and at that point in time he was also one of the pro's at Salinas Country Club. Too bad that I lost contact with him.  His father was the Head Pro at Cypress for many years and was really well respected by everyone in the golf industry.

I also love playing Pasa and I only live ~40 minutes from the course.

My wife and I played Pasa on our PB trip in 2019.  My wife had an 18 HC at the time and she thoroughly loved Pasa.  For me, from a pure golf experience, Pasa exceeded my expectations by a larger margin than PB exceeded my expectations.  The inland holes at PB, other than 1 (...because, hey, you're about to tee off at PB!) are kind of meh.  Like Graham McDowell said about PB, the walk from 4 tee to 10 green is likely the best walk in all of golf.  All of the greens at Pasa are fantastic and some of the most enjoyable/frustrating complexes I have ever played and they really make up for the lack of distance on the card.  For all of the extras around the golf, PB was spot on and far exceeded my expectations.

Aah, the memories of that trip are still fresh in my mind....

I agree with this. We went on our first trip to Pebble back in 2013, and while Pebble is great, I actually enjoyed Spyglass more. So much so that I have two tee times for Spyglass booked for our upcoming trip.
