Phil Mickelson Winning WITB from the 2021 PGA Championship

What about the SUNGLASSES???

How come Phil isn’t talking about the x-ray vision the glasses provides and their additional technology of reading greens with them?  Looks like he switches between styles and lenses depending on the outfit and/or perhaps conditions?

Can we get verification on a few assumptions:

Wonder how long it will take Cally to release his driver and putter now?

Not so much a fan of the putter (Nice, but just not for me), but would love to see the return of the Epic Sub Zero. I'm still playing the original GBB Epic Sub Zero. I didn't care much for the Mavric version.

I noticed he took them off to hit shots into greens at times but kept them on when putting.  this is backward of how I do it with my Oakley golf lenses.

It is supposedly a 6TX made specifically for Phil, equivalent to a regular 6X being tipped 2", but he couldn't do that and still play it 47.9 so I am assuming @Fujikura Golfmade him a one off ? Pretty cool stuff and I'll be damned if I'm not exploring my overlength options right now LOL

Yeah at that length he has to play a 6* driver otherwise his launch and spin would be terrible.  It was extremely impressive to see him wield that weapon all week.

I know right- the Taylormades at 45.75 feel long to me.  Lefty is nearly at max length allowed by usga and he wins the PGA at 50. Maybe the brands are actually onto something with longer drivers. They say they perform the best in both human and robot testing with the shafts at 45.75 or 45.5 straight off the rack. gotta say the SIM at 45.75 feels amazing when u smash one

agreed but I think most lower handicaps can benefit from a half inch or inch above 45 because the misses are not as bad. We are already seeing longer drivers on tour the past couple years. some like bubba and rickie will always prefer shorter however. i love the way you can really feel the shaft load and kick in the longer setup

Some players can benefit no doubt, but in my experience the vast majority will not like what they see other than the 1 bomb out of 10 drives.  There's a point of diminishing returns for most am's.  If you look at total driving distance for an 18 hole round the 45 or even 44.5" driver will be longer than a 46" driver for most players.  Especially if you factor in fairways hit.  Finding the middle of the face more often is still the most reliable way to add distance to a players bag.

Getting off topic a bit, but my drivers:

TM M2 w Diamana D+ 70X at 45 inches   Straight, but stiffer, harder to load

TM SIM w Smoke Green 6.5  @ 45.75  inches   5 yards longer than M2, easier to load, smoother overall feel, more satisfying on perfect hits , misses slightly more crooked

I should probably be using the M2 but the SIM just feels so damn good

If what I’ve heard it’s correct, it’s a brand by the name of uswing that’s based in China. It’s supposed to help you to read the line better too

Interesting to note:

So I heard on the broadcast that Phil replaced his 1 iron for the 4 wood because he cracked his 1 iron head.  But I read from Jonathan Wall that it was actually his Mini Driver that cracked, not the 1 iron.  Phil probably switched out the 1 iron because of the conditions but it's funny how Callaway always finds a way to NOT mention the mini driver.

Both the mini driver and the 1 iron had to be switched out. The Mini Driver had a face issue, and was easily replaced since he had a backup head and the club has an adjustable hosel. The 1 iron cracked, and he didn’t have a backup there. As such, that got replaced by the 4 wood. It was pretty windy in the afternoon, so I don’t think conditions would have played a factor, he just needed something to fill the gap between the mini and his next iron.

I'd love to hear the story about Phil's putting changes. He made the #9 the "Phil" putter shape, and he was known for the extreme forward press, the claw grip, and the big SuperStroke... and now he's reverted to a traditional grip and forward press with a decades old putter, finished off with a more traditional-sized SuperStroke. What happened?!

Exactly. I play my G410 LST at 7.5 degrees at 46.5 and it’s moon balls. Apex on a good strike is about 150 feet according to Mevo + (ballspeed 165-168).

On a side note, people who naturally play better when their swing gets longer and slower on the backswing should give longer a go. If you are quick and short, chances are you’ll hate the longer shaft. It’s why I suspect Ricky does better with a shorter driver (or at least used to).
