Putters that lost the magic

I putted lights out last season with a Protype 2-Ball, but this season I’m struggling. Alignment has always been an issue for me, and the 2-Ball helped me immensely last year. This year I can seem to line it up for the life of me.

Aside from alignment, I was able to put a consistent stroke on it. Now I’m pushing and pulling everything. It’s depressing.

The stroke is the least of my concern, but not being able to line this thing up anymore has me worried.

Anyone else go through something similar where the “magic” has run out?

Absolutely have had this issue- putt lights out and then I can’t seem to

line up and make a straight putt. My only solution is to alternate between two very different putters- one is a mallet (two ball) and the other is a Seemore blade. Both have great alignment aids- when one stops working a go with the other.
It’s a crazy game.

I hate to say this, but age is one big factor... Since age affect eye sight. For putters even the smallest vision changes could affect putting hugely. I know that because I have Amblyopia, and therefore only one of my eyes is working properly, so putting has always been a struggle to me.

Anyway, for putters that lost the magic, I would say it's because as time goes by, you aren't looking at those putters the way you used to, so of course the magic is gone.

Recently though, I have found a new way to align the putter, and that has been helping me tremendously, regardless which putter I'm using. I try to align the putter using the putter face instead of the sightline, try to align the putter face perpendicular to the aim line in my mind. I found that sightline is always more of a distraction and is more or less crooked, and now I just use a duct tape and taped the sightline off so that I can focus on the putter face only, and this has helped me a ton.

Aiming especially has always been a struggle. I’m right handed and left eye dominant. In addition to that, I have a stigmatism in my left eye... I’m SOL. My stroke is fairly consistent whenever I’ve been on TOMI or SAM. Whenever I use a line on the ball my pace control goes out the window and I give up on it mid-round.

I thought the 2-Ball was the answer to my prayers, but the fling has gone cold!

Maybe put a temporary site line on the top. I did this with the 2Ball Protype. Couldn’t hurt and it’s the cheapest experimental option

I dont have a problem aiming most of the time. I can see my line and match up well... distance control is the factor to me. I bought a spider x last year after trying my brothers and holing a fee good putts with. I bought the copper one...i was rolling it nicely for a round or two... then the nightmare happened... i started to notice i couldnt line this putter up at all at 6 feet and in...and i lost any ability to control speed on long or short putts... no idea why. Gave it back and got a scotty newport2... night and day difference.

Alternating seems to work for me as well.

My first putter I got in '89. I retired it last year when I bought my current gamer (just bored). In the last week I bought a 8802 T Line 04L and a slightly larger blade 02L for fun. Then bought a small mallet Odyssey 9 knock off because it looked cool, slightly larger 8802 look to it.

I will try them all and play the one I like looking at the most. I have some blackener on the way to do a makeover on the 04L.

I used to play an Odyssey White Hot No3 in the early 00's. Felt great to begin with but lost my pace putting with it a few years later. Davis Love III was having a great season in 2003, always admired his putting stroke and that red headcover in his bag. At the end of that year I bought the OTR SS NP Beach and my putting confidence returned ten fold & I've been a Scotty fan ever since.
