2021 Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play (May 26 - 30)

Recommended Posts

Las Vegas rolled out red carpet to host this event.  Not only many players touted how well they've been treated but the event also received coverage from the main stream journal.

The author did a great job by pointing out it's a great day for Americans; something I failed to notice.  Americans were:

12-4-5 in Win-Tie-Loss for the day.

American women excel on first day of LPGA Match Play event

Stacy really handed it to Mi Hyang Lee today 5&4....pay back?

Does anyone remember?

A few years ago at the CME.....Stacy, MHL and Danielle were paired together....we saw MHL and Danielle goofing around while Stacy was putting on 18....I suspect this might have been occurring throughout the rd.

While shaking hands...Stacy gave MHL an earful....and MHL had a ...WTH just happened look..... on her face.....it was so FUNNY.

Stacy would not say anything to Danielle cause Kang would have given it back to Stacy....maybe even slapped her.🤣

Mean Girls V2.

No one expected to see a pyramid with a light shining into space either haha

LOL.

Merican portions are so HUGE.

Wife and I were in the Luxor around midnight....we decided get something to eat....I had a sandwich...wife ordered a Cobb Salad.

The salad was the size of a 10 pin bowling ball.

I made a serious face and told the waitress the salad portion was kinda small...w/o hesitation the waitress picked up the salad to get some more from the kitchen

I laughed and said I was joking and told the waitress that the salad would feed a family of 4 for 3 days back in Canada...she had no clue what I was saying.....lol

With the open atrium in the Luxor...I heard there are unfortunately a few suicides.

Nice story. Yes it didn’t used to be like that where a 32 oz soda is the medium.....

Are the greens at this course new(ish) because the look dark green yet are hard as a rock.  Prospects looking good for the US Solheim Cup team.  Not sold on Morgan in the booth yet.  Five days of LPGA this week and the US Open next week!

The fairways are Bermuda, but the greens are bent, right? They must have one heck of a system to keep the greens alive in the desert heat unless they reseed the greens in the early summer. I assume they can control the firmness with the amount of water applied.

If I was on tour, I would seek out Butch as my instructor.

I'm surprised more ladies don't. It's not hard to send him some video and ask for opinions.
I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was watching the event, I feel like there's a lot of potential left hanging amongst a dozen or so players who just need that little extra push, Butch has a way to provide that.

It wouldn't help my FAV, she needs a Dave Stockton and not a Butch Harmon, sadly 😇

The one thing I will say is, the LPGA needs to improve the on course infrastructure for covering the event.   They basically had camera's set up on 12, 13 14 and 15 and couple single camera people running around trying to catch the other action.  There was no flow and was hard to get into any of the matches while watching on TV, the coverage of the event so far is actually hurting me enjoy the match play event.  Having just enough camera's kinda works in stroke play but really does a disservice to watching Match play.  Example Danielle was on fire and they sent out a solo camera person to show her last 2 shots, on the PGA, we would have gotten to see much more of that match.

Mike Whan is hopeless on any substance issues, he's all talk and no actions.

This's something a new commissioner, either Marcoux Samaan or anyone else, will be able to deliver many immediate results.

I've been wondering/ worrying if they're going to get the coverage right for the US Open.

USGA rules that with a pretty iron fist.  We will get lots of hours and quality network coverage.  The USGA is pretty strict and puts it in the contract, you get the Men's event but you gotta treat all other USGA properties equally.  That said, the Men's will still be better covered 🙂

Did you watch NBC/Golf Channel's coverage of 2020 USWO in Houston?  They did a great job even though they didn't know they'd rights to US Open until middle of the year.

I expect the coverage this year to be superior because of the venue, the Olympic Club, and they've more time to prepare for it.

In any case, we'll find out next week.

I thought it was good the 1st two days. Perhaps because they had to cover 2 courses. After that I felt like they shrunk the coverage down. Like they sent half of the crew home and kept a Covid restricted sized crew.

Ten men's gets longer hours for sure!

But, NBC/Golf Channel has beefed up this year with 4-1/2 hours of "Live from US Women's Open" on Wednesday plus a total of 26 hours of golf coverage.

Unfortunately, there're two hours of Peacock live streaming for paid customers only and the free coverage totals 24 hours.

Unfortunately, one of your biggest concerns is that the coverage will switch to paid Peacock year by year is happening.  We'll see whether the new commissioner will make any differences.

The last I understood was that Butch no longer accepts anymore players and is actually looking to reduce that amount to just a couple.  The idea being that many of them would migrate to his son and others in the Harmon clan.

It probably doesn't help that the GC was also covering the NCAA Championship. I thought the coverage there was decent, but then again there are far fewer matches out on the course at any given time.

I'm pretty sure here in Canada, the USGA and TSN (biggest Sports Network) have their own deal.  In 2020, both Men's and Women Peacock coverage was played with our On-Air TSN Network coverage, I think we are Geo-blocked with Peacock here in Canada.
