Sewailo Tips and Tricks

Recommended Posts

Will be playing Sewailo for the first time in a couple of weeks.  Looking through the forums, I see a lot of posts stating that club selection and lines of play are not obvious first time you play the course.  So, for those who play this course regularly, what are some of the trickier holes and what are some tips for those holes?

I'm looking at the course overview/flyover on Provisualizer.com to get an idea of the layout, but any other tidbits of knowledge would be mucho appreciated!

That would be a long post.  Probably the best tip is to use a gps app - and, if you hit the ball longish be aggressive off the tee.  The 2nd main tip, is pay attention to the slope of the fairways and make sure and play the correct side of the fairway (even exaggerate) the play...the ball will fall off to the side into trouble.

Thanks for that tip.  It will remind me of playing Rheinblick GC, in Germany....well, the desert won't remind me of Germany, but the sloping fairways will.

What is the tendency of the greens, which way do they tend to break?

South / Southwest if anything  - it will be obvious because the mountains are north / east.  But not sure there is enough to matter on most holes as the course is actually in a little 'bowl'.

Don't know if you been yet, but......

Pick the correct tees. Course was playing had and fast 2 weeks ago. Tight bermuda fairways.

As stated above, play high to slope on fairways as good shots can still roll into trouble right now.

Played Ruby/Jade tees, and you are correct on the fairway roll out and hitting to the slope.  Felt I played smart, and was happy with my round of 87 (could have been a lot better but I had 5 double bogeys).   A few of the holes (ahem 18) bit me as even though what I thought was a good/smart shot ended up in trouble.  Will definitely adjust my aiming spots next time around.  Thanks for the advice.

Glad you had a good time!

Have to see the course a few times, for sure.

I was member at Rheinblick GC and I’m very surprised to read about it on here. Not a lot of sloping fairways there, though, at least laterally. But a great course for sure.

I remember a lot of ball above/ball below my feet type of lies on Rheinblick.  Of course, that was back in the early 2000s, so the course (or my memory) may have changed.  It was a very fun course nonetheless.

Well, I played it today after a long break (members only for most of 2020 and until May 21, due to Covid-related government restrictions). I agree, there’s a lot of those lies and a couple more sloped fairways than I remembered. It’s a great course, and very demanding.
Funny to find someone on here that knows it, what a coincidence!

Small world!  Does every putt still break towards the Rhine river?  I remember a par-3 (hole 10 maybe) that had a severe back-to-front slope BUT the putt would always break uphill towards the back b/c that was the direction of the Rhine.   I used to live in Dotzheim and that course was 2 miles away!!!!

Ok now it gets really interesting. The only GC Rheinblick I know and played is a 4 hour drive south of Dotzheim, near the Swiss border. So we might be talking about different courses here…but a Google search shows only one club by that name. Maybe the one you mean has been renamed?? Mystery!

Maybe they did change their name.  I just looked it up, and it is Golfclub Rhein-Main.  However, the picture on their website shows the sign for their club with Rheinblick.

Got it. They named the course Rheinblick (Rhine view), but the club has a different name.

Funny anecdote about the Rheinblick I know: when the club was founded and planned, they were in negotiations with the local farmers (who own most of the land), and were looking to acquire some acres with Rhine views. Hence the name. For some reason, this didn’t work out and they had to settle for a different piece of land to build the golf course on. And of course, you guessed it, there’s not a single hole with any views over the Rhine river. Hilarious.
