The Match in Montana - Phil/Tom vs Bryson/Aaron ***MERGED***

I love this tournament and here's a couple others I'd like to see:

  • 4 v 4 pros playing a scramble and see how far under par they could get.  Would really promote some high risk/reward shot making.

  • A couple Pros paired up with some regular single index guys playing at the regular guys home course.  The key is that the course needs to be more like a goat track that isn't well marked, lousy bunkers, marginal fairways and crappy untrue greens and without caddies.  Would be interesting to see how pros handle a crappy poorly maintained course vs the regulars whom have all that local knowledge.

It's still just watching hackers trash talk and one good shot doesn't offset that.

I'd still rather see four of the best PGA Tour players going head to head with live mics, but that's me.  I also don't like watching the pebble beach pro am for the same reason.  Who wants to see some B list back street boy spray one into the pacific... but whatever floats peoples boats.

Yes, because the Taylormade event at Seminole was edge of your seat entertainment.

Steve Marino did just this. No warm up, stretched in the parking lot, went right to the first tee, still shot 68.

I think the team event in New Orleans should have scramble the first day, better ball the second day, worst ball the third day, and alternate shot the fourth day.

Bingo, bango, bongo or Daytona.  Let's just go ahead and let them buy skirts and mulligans for charity too.

As Grandmother Ferguson would say, "to each his own, and this is my TV, so go find your own."

She loved watching figure skating and golf - one was always on when visiting her house.

Yes, glad teude and I got the obligatory

"This is dumb"

"Then don't watch it"

exchange out of the way right off the bat.

These are for charity so I won’t get bent out of shape over this.  I would like to see Phil, Aaron and Tom after the 17th hole each pledge $2 million to have Bryson and Brooks meet on the 18th hole in a steel cage match.  The loser needs to where a shirt saying he is the winners b**ch while he caddies for the winner and can’t say a word as the winner levies all sorts of insults at the loser, filmed and uploaded to YouTube.

Driver - Testing in Progress

7W - Taylormade Ti Bubble II

4-5 Hybrids - Cleveland Halo XL (21*, 24*)

7i - GW - Titleist T200 7-GW

GW - Taylormade MG3 52*

SW - Sub70 JB Forged 56*

LW - Sub70 JB Forged 62*

Putter - Sled 01 (for thr moment)

Ball - Srixon Q Star

Watching these matches shows how bad a good amateur looks playing golf with professionals. Makes me think of the  “Can a 4 beat…”  threads. 🙄

Like over 10 years ago they had some pros playing with total “joes “ on TV.

Goosen was paired up with literally a 20 cap.

The joe hits a terrible slice off the tee and Goose goes to play his ball for the approach.

Was like 250 yards to the pin but decent lie in the rough. The camera was positioned right behind the ball to see Goose hit the shot and also get the joes reaction.

Goose freakin smokes this 3-wood, like a cannon shot. Joes mouth literally falls open, and you hear him mumble,

“Jesus”

; )

It should be a good event, Phil has won 2 of 3 matches and he'll be the favorite for this one. Chuck should have been given a chance to defend his title (not sure if he refused or wasn't offered a chance to play in this one). Phil + Chuck vs BK + Shaq would be a good matchup (maybe for The Match V).

Pairing NFL stars with PGA Tour players... I don't know, it doesn't do it for me.  If I wanted to watch guys slice one into the woods I can visit the local muni.

I think it would be more interesting to watch 4 of the top golf pros battle it out.

JT & Tiger vs. Rory & Rose was great match also, would watch something like that again any day.

These haven't been slouch players in the previous matches, with the exception of Barkley. The others were Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Steph Curry, all of whom are pretty good golfers.

Barkley is more of a passable golfer making up for a terrible swing lol. They used a lot of Phil's drives in that match, even the ones where he was in the desert.

I trust Rodgers can get around the course alright. After all, he had that hole-in-one with his driver in the State Farm commercial 😉

Not easy to get on, but I hear it is really fun. One day…

About 15 years ago we took an extended and we wandered through Big Sky and we somehow ended up at Moonlight. The lodge was very nice as I remember it. It seems like all the news is YC or high speed lifts at Big Sky, never anything about Moonlight. How’d they sneak in a Nicklaus course with no coverage?

I don’t quite understand moonlight. It Attempted to be its own ski resort for a while and failed. Eventually it was purchased by big sky and became part of that mountain. Big sky now has the most terrain of any ski area in North America. Moonlight is still some sort of private home community and the golf course stuck with them.

Will be interesting to watch this event.  The course is very difficult.  Brady plays there all the time, so  there’s an advantage there.  Phil has also played there.

Brooks will never be included in anything like this. They want someone with more personality than a rock.

I put Bryson in the same category, his personality is talking about himself. Given the state of the world why no Lexi Thompson from the ladies tees, or Sergio, Poulter, Spieth, etc.

Weak and not particularly funny IMHO. Should have a tweeted a picture of this:

And with the caption:

"Tom, I'm bringing you a box of these for the Match. We all know you like an extra soft ball."

The humor should be an oblique reference to deflategate.

Plus since he plays Bridgestone, it fits with his brand 😉

To each their own. I’m a fan of watching high level athletes, especially doing something outside their given sport.

I would only be interested if it was both ways. Phil and BD having to put on pads and play in a scrimmage with the NFL teams...

But, as you said, to each their own.

I'd be more interested in watching the pros take on a 4 man AM scramble. One pro....vs 4 man scramble...flighted so that they aren't all scratch players. Something like the ForePlay events they did with Kisner. THAT was entertaining!
