Senior golfers, I'm looking for a forgiving and and easy to launch hybrid and fairway woods.

I’ve temporarily given up on FW woods. I came to the realization that the longer shaft creates consistency/timing issues for my swing. Instead I rely on my 17* PXG 0317 hybrid. If I need to squeeze a little more distance, I can swing it harder, but unless I have to carry all the way, my wedge game is decent enough to get up & down from just short of the green.

I spent about 1.5 hours on the range yesterday and today hitting 3 woods. The Ping G425 Max was very good. I'll be 67 in August, and I think it's time to switch to regular shafts. I'm going to take the demo on the course, and hit some real shots this week, but it hit well on the range. I am also curious to try the Tour Edge.

After playing Callaway woods for years, Ping equipment has slowly crept in and taken over my bag. Their G425 line of woods have to be the easiest to elevate I’ve ever tried and long.

If you don’t mind going a couple years older, the Callaway Fusion fairway woods were stupid easy to elevate and hit.

DRIVER - PING G430 LST

FAIRWAY WOODS - PING G430 5W

HYBRIDS - PING G430 3H

IRONS - PING i230 4-UW

WEDGES - PING GLIDE 4.0 54S & 58E

PUTTER - SCOTTY CAMERON SS NEWPORT 2

Sounds a lot like what I've been doing.  I've been carrying a 3h and 4h and skipped the fairway woods altogether.

Yesterday, I did put the 5w (Callaway Mavrik) in the bag and actually hit it pretty good; however, I'm not sure it was any longer than my 3h/4h.  That's my dilemma.   Why carry a FW if you don't need it or can't get some benefit from using it.   I am going to take a look at a Ping 5w G425 Max.

Are you playing the std Mavrik or the Max version?

I've recently added a Mavrik Max 5w and 9w to the bag, and the 9w especially has been awesome.  I'm a very average swing speed player, and tended to suffer a bit of a fade.  I specifically chose the stiffer of the two standard women's shafts (Helium 5) because I wanted the 1" shorter length, and the ability to increase the weight in the heal to bring swing speed back up to "normal."

The 9w plays anywhere from 160-180yds, depending on if I harness my inner Inbee Park, or put a bit more zip on it.  It is the straightest club in my bag.

I'm have the standard Mavrik 5w, 1 inch short.

I do like the shaft options that Callaway offers vs the ones that you can get with the Ping G425 Max.

I'm a senior golfer and struggling with fairway woods.  I'm sure some of it is that I don't really practice with them that much, and if I play the senior tees, they only get pulled on long par 4's or par 5's.  Any suggestions for an easy launching and forgiving fairway and hybrid?

Poke around on Callaway Preowned. Look in the ladies section. You may find a winner there. At least, it's a low risk option.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Not a senior (only 57) but I switched from Titleist fairway and hybrids to the Ping 425 max 3 wood and hybrids.   They are so much easier to hit than my previous TS3 and 816s it was laughable.  In fact after hitting the Ping hybrids the first few times I actually did laugh out loud at how much more forgiving they are.  I cannot recommend them enough.  I always hated 3 woods but now I love this one I also got a 410 fairway as a backup and that's just as easy to hit as the 425 max but does have the fugly turbulators on the crown.  Never even considered Ping before now I am seriously thinking of trying out the i210 irons 🙂

That's exactly what I did.  The 5w and 9w were around $110-120 delivered each, came with brand new head covers, and shipped free.  They were marked as "average" condition, but were much better than that.

Callaway also has an ebay page, and sometimes their pricing for used stuff will be slightly lower than the official pre-owned page on their web site.

I've had a fair amount of success with the Callaway Epic Flash 5W due to the adjustable hosel, being able to increase the loft. The 3W I couldn't hit worth a darn even with the loft turned up the full 2°. Then I traded it in for the Callaway Mavrik Max 3W. I kill that thing! It's easy to launch, great mid-high, boring ball flight and if you monitor Callaway Pre-owned you can get a great deal on one in excellent condition.

FYI, I'm a senior, too - 73 yo.

100% agree with this.  I'm a Ping guy - Driver, irons and putter are all Ping.  But I couldn't hit the Ping fairway woods nearly as consistently as the Callaway Epic Flash.  I have the Epic Flash in 5W, 7W and 11W and hit them so consistently, I would never take them out of my bag.  My 11W always gets a bunch of strange looks out on the course, but if I need a 160-170 yd. shot, it's absolutely money.  I bought all of them on the Callaway Pre-owned site and the clubs I got looked new...not a mark on them.

I'm using an XXIO X Black 3 wood and it is flat out amazing.  It replaced an Callaway Epic Flash 15 degree and it is longer and much easier to hit.  The Callaway is going to be sold.  Definitely improved my par 5 performance.  Look for a used one if the price is too steep.  The claims of increased club head speed are valid.  Several members of my club have converted now.  The advertising for XXIO is ridiculous but the clubs are great.

I am a senior, age 70...I went to a softer tipped shaft and voila...the ball actually gets airborne with hybrids and fairway woods.  Do not be afraid to skip the 3 wood and go with a 5 and 7 wood.  We can usually hit those further and higher even with our slower swing speed.

BTW, Taylormade Sim hybrids are fantastic for me...
