Outdoor Launch Monitor - Flightscope Xi Tour or GCQuad?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, appreciate any insight here. I’m building an outdoor putting green (30x30) in my backyard and we are planning to incorporate a hitting mat/net to allow for outdoor range use, not really going to do much in the way of sim golf.

I have the ability to get a Flightscope Xi Tour for $5800 or a GCQuad with club data for $11,500 and I’m trying to decide which would be better for what I’m trying to do. I’ve used Flightscopes (mainly X2 and X2 Elite) with some golf instructors and I’m familiar with how they work. I also owned a GC2/HMT that I sold last year, so I’m familiar with the Foresight products as well. Space isn’t an issue as they haven’t built the putting green yet and I have flexibility in the design. Leaning the GCQuad as it’ll require less (can just throw a hitting mat and net down and go) versus having to get a 10’ area to put the Flightscope on. Not planning to get any software with it, just mainly use it as a driving range. Also, will be running off an iPad, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any insight!

This sounds similar to what I have in my backyard.  I have a 15 x30 green with another 10 x 40 of turf around the green and two bunkers.  I also have a cage that I hit into.  The cage was originally a 7 x 10 net that I made out of PVC for the frame.  The cage is the one from DW Quail and contains shots better.

I got a Sim in a box from Foresight sports this spring and put it in my bedroom - that think is awesome.  Dialing in a club is easy to do with it, and the GC Quad can be used outside with the cage and my iPad.  I have been thrilled with the whole deal.  I have to say I hit more balls inside than out when the weather is not to my liking 🙂

The green has been awesome to have for chipping and putting.

Another vote for the Quad.  I have a small setup in my garage, and I use it literally every day.  I can't tell you the simplicity of being able to go in the garage and bang balls, hit wedges, etc. for 20-30 minutes.  I have used my Quad both inside and outside.  The feature I love the most is the external display if I use it outdoors.  No need to drag out another device (laptop, iPad, etc.).  Just set up and hit.

That is awesome! Part of the reason I’m leaning Quad is because I can bring it in my garage during bad weather/winter. I had a sim setup and almost never used it, was almost exclusively hitting balls on the range features. Appreciate your insight!

Haha on the range only feature - I thought I would like playing the courses but I have not done that very much at all.  The range and data collection is what this Club Ho Nerd does inside.

The quad is so cool with being able to connect to a computer or to an iPad or go solo.  It is rock solid and super portable.  I have been thrilled with it.  I bought extra dots on eBay - they are way cheaper than from Foresight.  I leave them on my clubs all the time.

THe quad is a lot of money but when you add up the purchases of some club hos that live in my house, it is not that bad 🙂

Since you aren't going to be tracking the full ball flight anyway, QC Quad. It's easier to setup, requires less space, can be brought indoors if you so choose later. The other issue is accuracy on short chips/pitches, the quad is going to be much better than the Xi Tour. If I were to get a flightscope, it would be the X3 with the fusion tracking. FWWI I own an Xi+ , could have upgraded to an X3, but ultimately decided to switch to the quad since I use mine 99% of the time indoors (which should ship this week!)
