How much do you spend a year on equipment?

Shanker84

Recommended Posts

Too much. I can't put a number on it but I know I'm wasting money. I end up back with my old clubs 90% of the time. For me at least, new clubs and modern tech, have little to no bearing on my score, YMMV.

I had not spent any until last summer. So far I have spent just over a grand, have sold just over $600, have another $200+ to sell, so I hope to be almost even plus have a whole "new" bag.

<edit> 3 sets of irons, a few drivers, 2 driver shafts and I still have an iron set on the way. But I am really happy with my bag right now

On average now, maybe 2000-3000$ Canadian. I'll get a new driver every year plus a hybrid or 3 wood usually. Every couple of years new irons. It probably averages out to 2000-2500

Depends what I need/want. I won't/don't change woods and irons often but I like putters so I'll order a custom or a few every year. If I need something else I'll set aside the cash for that instead of putters.

I'm probably at $2000 to $2500 Canadian a year. Maybe less or more depending on my mood.

I know this year I've dropped about $1500 USD on putters and planning 1 to 2 more. But I've also sold like 1k worth of gear too.

2019 - a bunch (CC isn't cheap)

2020 - zero (out with an injury the whole year)

2021 - redoing the whole bag along with my swing so...

2022 - hopefully zero but because I'm happy with my setup rather than not being able to play

time will tell...I will say forums are bad for the budget

This year I bought a new putter, driver, fairway wood, and wedges that weren't cheap, and it's not even June... So yeah, if you get a good deal on some cocaine let me know!

I like to tinker a lot with shafts for my longer clubs so that's where a lot of money goes.  Irons I might switch every 8 years or so.  No point in switching that often if I have a set that's dialed in.  Iron tech hasn't changed in forever.  Wedges I play until the grooves are pretty shot.  With putter, I used to be a club ho but after finding this Newport for cheap, many years go, it's been in my bag for a long time.  I don't know how much I've spent on new equipment last year but it's been too much.

I really like trying new things out..I usually sell what doesn't work to fund new things though

this year I've purchased zx7, JPX921T, MB101, TC201, a few ventus, few Accra, TSi3 driver, TSi3 3w, Sim2 3w, driving iron, SM8, Zipcore, new putter... writing all that out made me realize I may have a problem...

It's fair to say I'll spend a minimum of about $500 updating something in a given year.

The more I play, the more likely it is I spend money tweaking something. Last year I played a lot. By the end of the year I had swapped driver and irons.

This year, I'm thinking about my 3w and my wedges. Not sure either will get replaced though.

Being lefty I basically have to buy it to try it. Being a cheap bastxxx helps keep me in check and I haven't lost much in the resale, so it's all good.

For 2020, It was new wedges which found for a great deal (RTX-4’s for $47 a stick so got two sets), and a set of irons that I sold off of a loss of $200.  So all in for $400.

For 2021, being a SUPER cheap a**, I’ve been able to redo all but my hybrids for $1300. Clubs bought were Ping G425 Max, Sim2 Max 3HL, ZX7 5-A, and a Scotty Squareback 2.

So if we average those two I’d be setting at about $750, but really liking my set up and don’t see changing.

I can actually answer a question!  I was actually looking back over a 5 year period the other night.     Over the 5 years, average was slightly more than $5,000 for balls, tees, clubs, shafts, fees for golf club work, grips, push cart, bags,  etc.... just golf related items.   Clothing, green fees, cart fees, etc...... not included in that total.

Not meaning shoes, gloves, balls and things that usually wear out and need replacing, how much are you spending a year in average?

After getting back into golf two years ago I have spent waaaaaaay too much on clubs, training aids etc.

I’m thinking of trying cocaine instead to save some money.

Personally, I tend not to make rash decisions, have definitive reasons for change and do a lot of research, do a lot of demoing and get fitted before buying anything - and set a budget for the year (about a grand, to also include balls and gloves and such), along with selling off my old/discarded clubs so they don't turn into dust collectors.
So this year all I've bought was a 7-wood (replacing 2 hybrids), and a putter.
Last year it was just a driver (replacing a 5yo model).
Year before that it was new wedges.

Getting back into the game, I suppose it's easy to drop a lot of money, quickly.
Then again, if you're trying to "buy a game" it's easy to go through a lot of cash too.
Training aids, well ...

Every four years or so I will spend maybe $600 on clubs.

In between it's maybe $150-200 or so for a new club or wedge. But, I can usually get a little trade-in or resale $$ for the item replaced.

This summer I will need to replace a rangefinder I lost at a local amateur event - no one turned it in.

No idea on the number luckily but at the start of each season:

4 for 3 balls

4 for 3 gloves

1 pair of shoes (walk 40+ rounds a year)

Fresh Grips every year or two

Woods and wedges every couple of years on an alternating schedule.

Irons when I see fit

I've had two bags in the last decade and my putter ho days are over so those will be rare.

Probably around 1500-2k and whenever an iron year happens.  But switching irons is a pain in the &&&&

For me who knows that it's not the arrow, but the Indian I probably spend on average $50 CDN/year.  That is mostly buying single clubs that are diamonds in the rough in thrift stores or Craigslist.
