Best quality/ place to buy high density lead tape

What’s the consensus on the best brand and place to buy high density lead tape? Are there any advantages to 1/2” vs 1” if I have the choice? Ive been on Amazon as well as Golfworks and have seen mixed reviews… I think my 718’s are gorgeous and hate to mess with the aesthetic but my 1/2’ short length and move to a lighter Modus shaft still have the head feeling a bit light even with tip weights installed by Titleist. Thanks

I have the stuff from GW. It's about a gram per inch. No complaints but I'd like to have more options

If the aesthetics mean that much, use Lead/tungsten powder and cork with the steel shafts.

I should have added,  the lead tape should still be used first to determine how much lead/tungsten powder to add.   Just replace the tape with the powder after the testing is done.

I like using tungsten powder provided the level of the powder doesn't rise too far above the top of the hosel.  I don't know what sort of tip weights Titleist uses, you may not have much room left in the hosel before the tungsten powder starts creeping higher in the shaft.

Even the heaviest tip weights for steel shafts will leave plenty of room.

I usually buy the HD lead tape from GolfWorks.  There's a Golf Galaxy location a couple miles away, it's quite convenient to grab a roll or two when needed.  I've also bought the stuff found on Amazon.

 

Both are fine IMHO.

 

Personally speaking, much prefer lead tape to something in the hosel.

To me lead tape is the method I use.  There are a variety of sources for lead tape.  I keep roll(s) available in my golf supply cabinet.  I could care less about aesthetics and more about functionality and performance.  I have always had a bit of lead tape on the backs of my clubs when needed, and positioned to attempt how the ball will flight even though the amount of lead tape isn't going to adjust cog in the slightest.  I would prefer to keep the weighting out of the end of the shaft.  Function over aesthetics is my priority.

Curious, why do some prefer not to have weight inline with the shaft ?  The CoG of the club head “wants” to align itself with the shaft plane during the downswing.

 

For steel shafts, you can get 12-16g lead weights from eBay / China.

 

Wishon / Diamond Golf make very nice, and short, tungsten weights for graphite shafts.

 

BigFootGolf on eBay USA makes heavy ferrules out of aluminum ( 4.5G),  stainless steel ( 13g ), and copper ( 15g ).

 

I recently completed a 1/4” increment build of ZX7 / ZX5 and have a ton of weight in the tips along with heavy ferrules in my 6i and 5i.  I notice nothing odd with having so much weight there, vs lots of lead tape on the backside of the head, YMMV.

Actually, the c.g. wants to align with the swing plane.  Don't assume the shaft plane and the swing plane are the same thing.  BUT you're not going to change the c.g. noticeably with lead tape.  At least not without adding so much it makes the club head too heavy to be playable.

Wound up going with one I found on Amazon… high/double density 1/2” wide and 2g per inch. Didn’t weigh it as I dont have a scale. Added a one inch piece to each of my irons 4-PW, SW, and LW. The change in head weight feel was noticeable and had the best iron striking round with these clubs yesterday. I need to go get the irons properly swingweighted now as Im liking them more and need a numerical starting point. Not sure if i’ll add more but pleased with the results so far. I think the effect was mostly on my tempo and it slowed my transition down which is exactly what i need.

I really like this high density tape.  It’s a little thicker, but at 2 grams per inch, it’s heavier than other high density.   For those older putters you want to add 20 grams to, I’ve been able to easily do that with two layers on the sole.

Golf works didn't have the high density version when I needed it. Used layers of the regular one before buying this one.
