Making the most out of the Mevo

Recommended Posts

Hi

I love my new Mevo but I think they could have done more on the software side. This is unfortunately letting the Mevo down a bit.

What I would like to see is

  • A skills mode, where it gives you a random distance you need to hit and it keeps track of the miss and scores you at the end
  • Show some more stats given your data. They currently only show Session by session. No overall stats or gap charts etc.

Well I can't change what Flightscope is doing but I can write my own 'stats' package 😉

I've written a small bash script to import the CSV file into a MySQL database. I can import the session as 'full' or 'skills' sessions. When I do a skills session I use a 'Random Number generate' app on my phone which keeps the history of those numbers. Once I've imported the CSV I set a Target value on each shot.

I've then used Grafana with Plotly to visualise the data.

These are the visualisations I've come up with so far:

The first one is for 'full' sessions where I hit full shots. It is supposed to give me a gapping for my clubs (and yes I am not a big hitter - getting too old for that).

The second one is for the skills sessions where I show the miss overall, by distance and per session

Has anyone any good ideas on what else to track/visualise? I am thinking of showing gauges for the smash for each club but I would need to know what are good smash factor numbers for each club.

It is a shame that you have to be an IT professional to get some useful visualisation out of the Mevo sessions. Flightscope should do this on their website. It took me a couple of evenings to get this running.

Nice bit of work here, maybe this is a gap in the market for you to sell and retire on lol.

I wish 😀 Over the years I had a few ideas which I didn’t follow on with and which others then turned into businesses but I don’t think this is one of them. Flightscope could easily add this on their website but if you require someone to manually download a CSV file, then upload it to another server you will have lost 99% of the people.

But I am surprised that not more Mevo users are interested in seeing more stats like gaps, trends etc.

E.g. what values are good (e.g. your smash) and which ones need work on.

I have added another dashboard comparing my values to the averages from the LPGA (comparing myself to the PGA would be futile).

It shows that even though I can still swing it faster than the women on the LPGA I roughly generate the same ball speed. So I need to work on my smash factor to get the most out of my swing.

This is really excellent, and exactly the sort of thing Flightscope should be offering. Now that winter is over, I've got a great piece of technology with a lot less utility. If you sent me these files, how easy would it be to run them myself?

You would need to have experience with MySQL (or any other SQL flavour of your choice), bash and be able to get Grafana up and running.

There are currently a lot of manual steps involved unfortunately and I would only recommend it for other software developers. As I am currently trying to learn a new web framework I might put together a small web app for uploading and editing the data as a training exercise but I can’t promise anything yet.

I didn't recognize a single one of those proper nouns! So yeah, maybe not. Cheers, though, because this software would make @FlightScope Mevo the best product in that sub-$500 segment.

Hi Par Hunter,

would you be able to share this?

Thanks

Yes but as I said, if you don’t have any experience with MySQL a bit of bash scripting and be comfortable playing around with Grafana then it will be of no use to you. I can provide you with the database schema and the Grafana configuration.
