The same thing happen to me

A solo Ace

I still tell everyone I aced the hole and I have pics to prove it

If you are lying to everyone about an Ace, or set up the hole so it looked like you Aced a par 3, I don't want to play a round of golf with you.

I'd go your route, celebrate and take some photos. I'm still bragging about it! Only problem is, I don't see myself ever getting that damn hole in one!

You mean after I recovered from my heart attack? 45 years of waiting might have an effect on my response...

BUT- I almost NEVER have my phone with me on course, so a real time documentation video/Facetime would be tough.

All kidding aside- without any phone, it would end up being a double circle around the "1" on the scorecard, then move on. After the round I would hope that someone would believe my good luck when I told them. If, on the one in 100 chance I had the phone- a video of the walk up to the hole would be the only recourse to prove it happened. And many would just ask "How many did it take to do it?"

I did it once about 5 years ago playing a solo round in the evening.  181 yards to flag.  Hit a 6 iron.  The ball hit 12 feet in front of the hole, bounced once, and then rolled in.  The good thing about no witnesses is that you don't have to buy a round for everybody.  My other hole in one was about 10 years ago playing with my buddies.  It was a blind shot, though, because of a large bunker in front of an uphill green blocking the view.  We didn't know it had gone in until we got to the green and looked in the hole.  It was kind of anti-climatic, not actually seeing it go in.

A solo ace is kind of bitter sweet. Just have to pat yourself on the back with a smile and keep playing.

Considering I thought that my HIO would likely be solo it never crossed my mind that it might cost me that much.

You did the right thing (as long as it didn't create havoc at home). And congrats!

Congrats OP on your solo ace. You know you did it and that's all that matters. Ignore the noise from some of the peanut gallery. Your ace made me recall this USGA commercial from some time back.

Thanks for sharing this great commercial / video!

Congratulations on your ACE. That has to be the worst cut cup I’ve ever seen. It goes beyond shaggy. That’s less than 4 1/4”.

Congrats on the Ace.. I play 9 hole rounds by myself quite often.  I usually prop my phone up behind me and film the par 3's in the event this happens to me.  I've hit the stick once on a solo round, heart was pounding, not sure what I would have done if it went in.

Something similar happened to a buddy of mine.  We ALWAYS play together ALWAYS.  Neither of us had ever had a HIO.  In the Club Champ in 2020  my Buddy had one in the second round.  I, for reasons that are unimportant, was not playing in the Champ.  We had always assumed we would witness each others first ace.

Then about 6 weeks later we were playing together and he got another one. I was there this time but the pin position made it impossible to see the hole.  So He has two HIOs and I didn't see either one of them. This is from a couple of guys that play together so much that we are accused of being each other's second wife! LOL

My first ace was on a hole that can be seen from the practice range.

So of course I'm solo one twilight evening and there was a guy banging balls on the range, I hit the ace and look over towards him, no reaction.

Later see him in the clubhouse, said he watched me walk up, take my carry bag off my shoulder and go take the ball out of the hole. Said he would sign  off on my card. I appreciated that.

Something similar happened to me 3-4 years ago.  I hit an 8 iron and thought my ball rolled off the back.  I was looking all over for it and finally decided to check the hole just to make sure.  I couldn't believe it when I saw my ball there, smiling back at me.  No one was to be found on the course, as it was late in the day.  I did some summersaults on the green, collected my ball, and found a few drunks in the bar to buy drinks for.  My club never did put my name on the hole-in-one plaque though, because I was playing by myself.

Back in the late 90s I was playing solo at our local muni, and I got to the eighth hole, a short par 3. It was a cool, windy day, and it was getting dark. I hit a pitching wedge and the ball stopped a couple of inches from that hole - an almost solo ace! The closest I've ever come to a hole in one!

Nowadays everyone's phone has video recording capability, but it wasn't the case back then. I think if I had a solo ace nowadays I'd begin recording right after the shot, then record all the way to the hole. At least I'd have video evidence that I got a hole in one.

Why would it matter whether someone was playing with you or not? An ace is an ace!  I don't play golf to get kudos from anyone else.  Plus, so many people have gotten one, many of whom are hacks, that it really isn't that big of a deal. I would much rather play a round under par than get 3 or even 5 aces.

I came close recently, also playing solo.  It could have gone in, but it was a pretty easy hole: 110 yards, so no big deal. I was happier on the hole that I flushed a 9-iron and spun it back in from 145. I was playing really well that day!

I play a ton of solo golf: I show up at the course after I get out of work (usually evening) and play a few holes.  12 if I am lucky.  There are a bunch of retired folks at our course and they normally play earlier, but us working folk have to get the rounds in when we can, and I don't need to organize a posse everytime I want to get out on the course and enjoy myself.

Agreed!  I can't stand playing with cheaters or people who lie about their score.  If you aren't an honorable person, you aren't going to be playing with me or getting my vote.

I've had 2, both witnessed, but I wish my first was solo, because I had to hear for 11 years from my buddy about how crappy I hit the ball. lol

(I mean, it wasn't THAT bad. Thinned 5 iron from 185 that landed about 30 short of the green and rolled another 50 before going in... but the clubface was square).

But honestly, as bittersweet as a solo ace would be, we currently have a hole is under construction, resulting in a temp tee AND green of about 110 yards. I have no doubt that SOMEONE has "aced" that in the last 3 months it's been around... now THAT would suck, especially if you don't have one.
