I am exactly 6' tall and around 200lbs with typical or slightly shorter arm length for my height (I believe I wear a 34" sleeve in dress shirts?). I find that "standard" length and lie in most irons fits me just fine. The one time I've had a pretty detailed club fitting it suggested standard length and 1 degree flat lie angle but that's close enough to standard as not to matter.

I am not 6 feet tall, BUT have a + cap buddy who is.  He plays his irons standard and 1* upright.

I’m 5”10 with average to long arms and I was fit for +1/2.

The fitters reason was that my posture and delivery I am standing more upright. (like Fred Couples)

I think swing dynamics may have an effect on picking shaft length and lie angle.

I remember a thread that was insightful on lie angle, shaft length, and swingweight.

I play my shafts in my 5-gap at +1/2

standard lie angle (Mizuno)

+ 1/4 and 1 degree up.

Note that several OEM’s (PXG and Cobra for instance) have started increasing “standard” club lengths in addition to the typical loft-jacking.

I’m usually fit into longer shafts, but find that they make my swing path oddly flat, and the resulting clubs often have unfortunate swing weights and weight distributions that more than offset any theoretical advantages.

6ft even -- I play with + 1/2" in short/mid and +1/4" in the longer irons.

If you just do a wrist-to-floor measurement, it would say I fit into standard.  But I have wide shoulders, so when my hands come together at address they sit a bit higher, and the extra length in the shorter irons just feels more comfortable.

First really noticed the problem when I bought my first sand wedge -- always felt like I was hunching over to hit it.  Broke the shaft at some point, and when I mentioned it to the repair guy, he put the new shaft in at +1/2" -- all my irons have been over standard ever since.

6 feet tall, shortish arms (wrist to floor is between 36" and 37").  Use 38" 5 iron.

Have played a quarter inch longer, but not especially a fan...

I’m 6’ and have longer than normal arms (36” sleeves) but I play my irons +1/2”....so 38 1/2” 5 iron..standard to 1/2* flat). I use to play at standard or +1/4” but I would grip the club at the end of the cap, now I grip down a little more so I’ve added some length.

Shaft length is predicated on the length of your wrist to the floor. Height has ZERO to do with it. I don't have to know how tall you are to recommend shaft length.

Wingspan also has nothing to do with it. The width of your shoulders isn't relevant to the discussion.

After you determine WTF, then start testing different lengths and see which one gives you better center contact. If you are still hitting it out on the toe, it's probably too short. If you are still hitting on the heel, it's probably too long.

6 ft with 38.5" 5 iron 1.5-2* up, but I tend to be more upright thru impact.

Fitter says mostly due to the history of a bad back, I do that to protect my back without thinking of it.

Because (in most cases) all of your irons are different lengths anyway, and even the longest iron is still shorter than any fairway wood, does your height really make much difference? No matter how tall you are I think you choose the length of your set by how well you hit them. Keeping in mind that you will probably hit a 5 iron that is one inch longer farther than a club of standard length. The trade off is that you can probably control a shorter club better. Is my thinking totally wrong?

Same.
standing taller at address and impact through swing changes has helped greatly. My clubs are 1/2 over standard because of that.

that is why I post pics of Freddy Couples and Joachim Niemann. If they both were the same height and had the same wtf measurements, you could see Freddy in an over length shaft and Niemann in an under length shaft due to their swing mechanics

Yup. Since your comparison was Freddy, not sure you why you included them.

To show that body positions and swing mechanics  are somethings a fitter may consider when choosing club lengths, rather than a static fitting that takes a wrist to floor measurement to fit an individual without looking at their swing.

6’1” with short arms. Always get fitted to +1/2” and upright but I always play better with standard length and 2 flat. I play my driver at 45” and 3 Wood at 43”. Just get better accuracy that way and contact.
