Noodle's are the best ball money can buy - change my mind.

Recommended Posts

I'm not joking.  They are a superior ball for the money.  I have 2 pro v1's in my office against 2 noodles and I find putting the noodles so much more enjoyable from a feel perspective.  I guess it's personal preference but I see no performance difference between the two balls by the end of the hole.  Sure the PV1's may drive farther but the soft, forgiving covers of the noodle's make up for it in the short game.

I was given a box of Noodles 12 years ago.  Tried a sleeve, gave the rest to my mother.  She needs all the spin she can get.  They seem to work great for slower ss golfers.  HIgher ss golfers, not so much.

Relatively new.  My swing speed is likely very high as I'm very tall and pretty big.  I've played with a bunch of different balls and I just think the surface of the noodle is very forgiving.

If you enjoy the Noodle then play it, especially if you are new to the game.

This is GOLF WRX!!!! you MUST play a $50/dz ball or else you will be BANNED!!!

seriously though, if the noodle works, play it.....to each his own.

for me, Prov is the absolute best ball ive ever played.....the laft dash and the new prov1 are amazing

Before this becomes a argument about golf balls again. It all boils down to personal preference. if you can get out of a noodle more if not equal to a ProV, more power to the player. I myself play Vice golf balls and I can say they play about the same as a TP5 for me. Ya, the covers are thinner by design on the pro plus so they only last about 2-3 rounds but, I always start with a fresh golf ball each round anyways. I’ve seen noodles on the golf courses so people are playing them. With golf balls just like the 4 C’s with diamonds, it comes down to the 3 P’s. Packaging, Performance, and Price point.

Doesn't matter whether it's the best ball money can buy or not if it's the best ball for you.  Play what you like, and like what you play.  I've never understood those who talk down about whatever equipment someone else plays.

However, just because you're big and tall doesn't mean your swing speed is fast.  The golf swing is all about efficiency and not so much power.  Trying to swing HARD is a tendency I still fight (powerlifting background and all) even though I know that typically the easier it feels like I'm swinging the farther the ball goes.  Club speed comes much more from the path the club head follows than how hard you're trying to move it.

And it should be "Noodles" not "Noodle's".  End apostrophe abuse!!  🙂

Sorry, SS?

118.  Notice how I never said that Noodles were mediocre balls.  Just not right for me, but terrific for my mother.  She has a box of those at her place along with the Cally Super Soft and Volvik balls.

This is going to be debated until the end of time.  I believe that ss comes from a variety of things.  Hip rotation, arm speed and how late of a release you have right before impact.  Also something that almost nobody mentions is fast twitch muscles.  Some of us are just lucky enough to be born with more of these than others.  My back round is in body building so I totally get where you're coming from.

I can never, ever use all the golf balls that I find on my local course.  So my perspective comes from someone who can play whatever ball they like.  Mine...Pro VX & TP5X.

Years prior when my swing was not even close to using a premium ball, the Noodle was one of my favorite.  The "long" & "easy spin" varieties were what I would use.  Felt good off of every club, gave a nice ball flight & would give a decent spin to help hold a green.  Yet would not side spin off the planet on the wayward strike.  To this day, I do keep some on hand for the days when things are not going well with the swing.  Will be 63 in two months.  Last time had a ss reading was 2 years ago. The average was 108.

Years back when Noodles were popular, I played them for a bit.  Great distance balls, putted nicely too.  Only thing I noticed about them was on the fast greens I face, they tend to run out too much.  Reason they didn't last long for me.  But a friend had one a couple of weeks back; he really likes them but has trouble finding them.  If I were to compare my down range experience, I'd put Noodle up against AVX, even a few new Callaway balls, but not ProV1 or Dash-ProV1x.

What I won't do is attempt to change anyone's mind about anything, especially their choice in equipment.  We're all different with varying skills and abilities.  If you're comfortable with Noodle, stick with them till you can no longer find them.

I have lived a long time in the midspin range.

Years ago in Oklahoma, I played midspin balls on a tighter course with closely cut greens, and distance balls on a more wide-open course with perpetually slow greens (greens crew kept things a bit fluffy to cut down on damage from high shots coming in).

For past 15 years, I have played a mix of  Slazenger Tours (disappeared from mix, I think I was only one of only 100 or so golfers who played them), TopFlite Gamers, Gamer Tours/Urethane, Callaway SuperSoft and now SuperHot. All these stopped quickly on full shots.

(Problem with SuperSoft, inside 30 yards all I had was a chip and run.) SuperHot just spins better close in; I can't back it up, but can get a one hop and stop most times.

The better balls I avoid, as about every third round thing I get wild and dump four or five into the deep jungle. Also, high-spin balls tend to feel spongy on putting.

If ball's distance was decent and didn't balloon too much, main thing was how it played on short game.

Agreed,  there are a lot of factors.   I was trying to simplify a complex topic to say club head speed doesn't come from where many would intuitively think it does (swing club hard, make ball go far!).

"The best ball money can buy implies" it will be the best fit for everyone.

As good as the Noodle may be for you, for someone else it may be plop. In fact, there isn't a single ball on the market that could be described in the way you are suggesting. Different players have different needs when it comes to golf balls.

Did I change your mind?

Noodle was the first entry point for me into the soft 2 piece category. It was great. But, there are balls that are similar and just as good like SoftFeel, Burner Soft,  SuperSoft, Wilson 50 Elite etc. So, it is not the best ball in this category. But, as good as any of these.

The Noodle to this day is the softest golf ball I've ever hit. I used to play them all the time in High School 15 years ago. The problem with them is I have a high swing speed as well and struggle with accuracy---the noodle doesn't help that at all.

They spin off the face of the earth when you mis hit them at high speed. They are a incredible ball though for slower swing speed golfers and people who love control around the green.
