Bryson having fans removed for saying “Brooksie” to him...

"I think it's absolutely flattering what they're doing. They can keep calling me that all day if they want to, I've got no issue with it. When you look at it, to most people it's they think it's a distraction, but I grew up learning how to deal with that stuff and I honestly thought it was flattering. I grew up learning how to deal with this stuff.”

Lol he is insufferable and soooo much better than everyone on so many levels.

The Tour is a joke. They have lost all control of the useless garbage that walks behind the ropes.

Love the game but hate the tour. Sick of hearing about tradition and all the other garbage the tour

constantly chirps about. They are doing everything they can to destroy it. The Woods era ushered  in the crop of useless garbage behind the ropes. It's not his fault. it is the Tours fault.

I'm surprised the PGA Tour hasn't learnt from the several incidences involving the crowd from the 1996 season.

Seems Brooks was the first to get flustered, lost his train of thought. Not much of a train either.

Let's go to your office and heckle you and see how fast you have us removed. Good for Bryson and any golfer that has hecklers thrown of the premises.

Totally agree, anyone who cannot keep their mouths shut should not be there. You are watching a game of golf not having an audition for a comedy show.

This is one of the MANY reasons I love golf.

Lots of people clutch their pearls when someone from the crowd shouts something at a golf tournament.

In darn near EVERY other sport, the fans yell and scream whatever they like.  This is considered acceptable.  I have seen fans at MLB and NFL (especially NHL)  games hurl horrible racist, homophobic, sexist, and xenophobic insults at players.   No one blinks.  Beers are passed around.  Life moves on.  Flowers bloom, the cat gets fixed, and the pot-hole on your street doesn't get fixed.

The only other sport that I can think of that somewhat follows the PGA model is Pro Tennis.

I find the whole double-standard so funny and strange.  I don't think it is right or wrong, just strange.  This would be a great sociology thesis question.

Have you not paid attention to the NBA this week? Fans most certainly get tossed for certain behavior and comments. Same in other sports.

buying a ticket and getting drunk is no excuse for boorish behavior.

Two different issues.  First, are golf fans at tournaments out of control for what the game of golf should command (irrespective of what happens in other sports)?  Perhaps.  Second, are (many) top level professional athletes also top level professional j*ck*sses?  The answer to this seems to be yes yet they are adored in all different sports.  In fact, the more you win or the greater the player you are, the more this behavior is deemed acceptable in the name of "being a competitor" or whatever it is.

We can all say we don't like what's being done/allowed but until you turn off the TV you actually don't mind it (enough).

Should people yell "disrespectful" things at Bryson or anybody for that matter?? No obviously not. But to request the police remove spectators for heckling?? That's honestly ridiculous.

It's one thing for *event staff* to make a call and remove guys yelling things out of line, but to actually request law enforcement to kick out fans is a new level.

Seems like a decent guy outside of golf and a hard worker but I hate to say it, maybe is a bit of a... snowflake.

Just like how the tour keeps well fines hush-hush, any intervention on these two clowns or approach to fans will be soft.  There's a gravy train to keep moving.  The tour will not do anything to impact ticket or beer sales.  Tour players will not whine too much when they have the best of both worlds - police powers and get to keep the money.

As posted before, it's a bad look having police intervene.  Just get some old guys wearing a jacket and hat that says "Marshall".  We know how effective that is at your local Muni. 😉

Deshambles better come up with a different strategy of it will get out of hand at some venues.  Remember the crowd counting Sergio  regrips?!  Or the abuse Miss Doubtfire Monty got?  I'm sure no matter what BDC is in for some hell in the future and eventually it will pass... Like next year.

Well, in fairness to Bryson, after seeing the guy yell Brooksy right behind him in the practice round, might have been wise to set the tone and toss guys right off the bat than waiting til they get drunker and acting like tough guys or there is some “pack” mentality of BK fans and general morons chanting “Brooksy” 🤣

As somebody pointed out, DLIII had a guy tossed. I remember Phil had a guy tossed for calling him FIGJAM. Actually, Phil told Bones to tell someone to toss him!

Bababooey is one thing but, in golf, you don’t start talking directly to the players.

Its not a stadium sport with a constant buzz of noise, yells, and drunken screaming.

These guys are standing 10 feet from the players and it’s quiet.

So, throwing out fans who directly target individual players with taunts is best.

Great post...nobody outside of the US actually watches the PGA Tour which is why they are terrified of the PGL.

To the rest of the world the PGA Tour is a joke and well on the road to self-destruction. Absolute travesty that they bought out the European Tour and will slowly and surely kill that off too.

I take it that quoted paragraph is from Bryson?  If so, I'm pretty sure he just saw a segment about Earl Woods training Tiger to tune things out when he was a kid, and Bryson co-opted the story.  I highly doubt Bryson "grew up learning how to deal with that stuff".

It's all very polarising. You can see on this forum how people are picking sides. The gutter press will smell blood and do it's best to drag other players in and it will become bigger than Bryson versus Brooks.

Not a good look for the game. The tour must act.

Agree that the tour needs to put an end to this. The commissioner needs to sit down with Brooks and Bryson and say “I don’t care if you hate each other’s guts, you’re going to walk out of here, shake hands and smile for the cameras and say everything is cool between you. No more taunts, no more tweets, no more eye rolls!”

As soon as you mention ticket sales and beer sales. The rest of you opine is moot. The Tour doesn’t really care about ticket sales and even less so about beer sales. All of those are driven at the local level i.e. tournament organizers and caterers/distributors nothing/very little to do with the Tour.

For the last time people tickets sales and beer sales or any concession or souvenirs bought at a PGA Tour event have little to zero effect on the Tours bottoms line. The PGA Tour is concerned with whether or not you tune in every Thursday through Sunday.

I wonder how many guys would stay home if the Tour banned beer sales at tournaments. Some would, but would that number be an acceptable loss?

Is everyone forgetting how frustrating golf can be when its silent let alone if someone is taunting you. I havent been extremely pissed on a course in years but even if i was a little flustered and then some random person said something very bad or negative... it would set anyone off lol. Ive showed up to courses and had random guys or workers be so rude that it made heated before ive even struck a ball yet.

As Dr. Evil says- HOW BOUT NO!

The PGA Tour is thriving.  They make money hand over fist.  In no way are they going out of business anytime soon with their lucrative long term contracts with their sponsors and CBS.

Ok, that’s a sad commentary if I can’t enjoy a tasty brewski 🍺 cause some clown can’t hold his beer.

I say, just get WS out there dispensing justice for:

That’s the question. Would you give up being able to enjoy a tasty brewski in return for no drunken clowns?

The Tour understands the relationship that it has with tournament hosts and sponsors, that is one of the reasons behind the Tour implementing their requirements to play new events. Now did that rule affect the big name players like Tiger/Phil etc that drive and have shown significant ticket sales increases when they commit to an event? No but did it affect the younger guys that the Tour was going to sell moving forward? Absolutely it did. They want to be a good partner with their hosts and sponsors, and if the tour implemented that policy I am sure there would be some backlash (especially from the the Thunderbirds in Scottsdale who run that drunker booze fest that parades itself as a PGA Tour event). So would they ever ban beer sales? No. Period. End of story.

The Tour only cares about attendance at TPC-owned tournament sites.

There is no loss to the Tour. Local organizers of tournaments would make less money from ticket sales, food, drinks, et al., not the Tour.

The Tour is a vendor. It supplies players for a PGA Tour tournament along with 60% of the purse. The local organizers have to come up with the other 40%.

The PGA Tour makes its money from the TV rights, Tour Partners and Sponsors, licensing rights to PGA Tour logo and name, TPC properties, etc.

bought out by private equity.

capitalization, grammar and reasoning slashed as a cost reduction.

No. Then the clowns win 🤣

Plus, hardcore drunks are sneaky, they’ll just show up totally blotto and be worse. Or they sneak it in.

This thing with BD shows there’s no problem tossing people, word gets around and people will stop.
