Hybrids: tsi3 vs ping g425

Recommended Posts

Ditching the p790 3 iron.

Hcp +0.7

driver SS is 122 mph.

Had hybrid before (19*g410) and liked it. Just thought maybe The p790 would be better for me but it is a little one dimensional.

watched the latest txg video and have the same problem as Matt with the driving iron. Little to much handle lean, strike high on the face, clunky contact.

Thinking the ping g425 (or the g410) 22* and turn it down to 20.5. Live how flat it can be adjusted.

never hit the tsi3 before.

Can Anyone compare?

I feel like these don’t really fit the same target audience, but I could be wrong.

I play a TSi3 and absolutely love it. It’s the first hybrid that’s has a permanent spot in my bag since the 2009 TaylorMade Rescue TP. Doesn’t want to hook, very forgiving given its size and foot print, looks and feels great, and can be hit from everywhere.

What’s the difference in the target audience?

The Ping is targeted at people looking for a bit more help and forgiveness. I think the TSi2 would be a bit more similar. The TSi3 is going to be aimed at the better ball striker, who wants to be able to control the shape of the flight a bit more.

I don’t know if I agree with that. Ping hybrids are played by Tour professionals around the world. I think the biggest difference is the look of the head. Titleist even make two different head styles in their hybrid for player preference. The performance difference between the Tsi3 and Tsi2 is basically nothing.

Ping G425 is so stupid easy to hit. I'm sure your appreciably better than I am (currently sitting at 11 HDCP) but man, it's so point and shoot with the Ping. Stock CB shaft is going to be what you'll need to change so get ready to wait if you order from PING or find a way to source a better option and ditch the CB.

Is it designed to be more forgiving than workable? Yes. Should you discard trying it because of that? No.

Got the ping, a 4 hyb and lofted it down to 20.5.

played Ed it this morning. Definitely long enough. Hit it off 3 tees. 2 where real good and the 3rd the wind got ahold of it and took it to the hazard right (should have hit a draw, tough tee shot)

but looks promising. Shaft will have to be swapped over eventually, but will see how it goes.

Well this thing is stupid long. Glad I went with the 4hyb and not the 3 like I was previously thinking.

2hyb lofted down could easily be a FW replacement.

I won’t post my gps numbers as most won’t believe me. But it is long.

can flight it up and down with no issues.

much more forgiving than the p790 3 iron.

I also got a g425 19* lofted up to 20* to replace my 3i.. and as I’ve gotten used to it I’ve found that it goes too far now so I have a gapping issue. Face is definitely hot. Might have to look into a 4hybrid now

I have the 4 hyb. Turned down to 20.5 it is a rocket. Hit it well.

If your goal is to hit a number consistently and it will be an iron replacement to gap off a fairway wood, I’d suggest the Tour Edge EXS Pro. Hands down the best hybrid on the market right now.

I’ve hit the Ping G410 and the TSi2, the EXS Pro has a much better flight (lower) and it’s definitely aimed at low cap, high swing speed players like yourself.

I tend to hit hybrids sky high, so I seek out ones that are easier to flight down. I play a Adams Super 9031 proto at 20* with a Modus 105 steel shaft. I play that particular one because it’s the lowest launch, it’s not some hot faced,  ball speed monster, it’s to hit numbers consistently to gap off my 4 Wood. I previously played a Callaway Apex (2016) which flew a higher than the TEE EXS PRO  (still considered low for a hybrid) but it was point and shoot. The Tour Edge EXS Pro is like a combination of the Adams Super 9031 being that it is very workable and iron like, but it’s trajectory sits in between the Super 9031 and Callaway Apex (2016).

if you are going to test out the Ping and Titleist, I’d give the Tour Edge EXS pro a look, you won’t be disappointed

My swing speed is lower than yours at 112-114mph so my ball speed with a 20* hybrid is around 149-151 mph. I’m around tour average on flight, launch and spin for the most part. I’m very particular about hybrids and I liked the Ping and Titleist offerings ok, but I loved the Tour Edge EXS Pro comparatively, and no i don’t own one.

If my 9031 ever caves in, then I’d grab the TEE EXS PRO without hesitation!
