Why no 6 woods?

What loft would that be?  Not all 5 and 7 woods have the same loft.  I carry two nine woods with different lofts.

Haha, there should be. Cobra has some recent "5-6" woods, and there are a some wooden 6Ws out there.  Though with loft adjustable adapters and no real standards, 19° can be 5W or 7W today.  Glued 19.75° could be a nice 6W!  No even number love after 4W.... Golf is an odd game 🙄.

I think a 19-19.5 6w would be a great complement for some of us playing 4 woods, and having about a 22-23deg 4i. I'd probably pick one up, I've never been in love with the amount of open/ closed necessary to pay to turn fw woods up or down

Actually just built that exact club up for a friend.  I just can't really get over the open face at address.  I should be able to get over it, but I can't get the "don't push it" thought out of my head the entire time and usually end up hooking it straight left. I guess my mental toughness game isn't up to par lol

Same reason there are no 2- or 4-woods anymore.

And even when they do, TM calls it a HL but puts a 3 on it.

Exactly ... the loft of 7 wood is just confusing sometimes.

With adjustable hosel, pretty much all the 5 wood can turn to 6 wood though

 

Cobra calls their 5 wood 5-6 wood with loft from 17-20* up until F9 release.

I would consider the Callaway Heavenwood a 6 wood. It's a bit weaker than a 5 wood, and it has a longer shaft than a 7, and is a bit lower loft than the 7.

This just furthers my notion of getting ride of club numbers all together. You have woods, hybrids, and irons. Just give it a loft and be done with it. 

 

Rather than a "high loft 3 wood" you have a "16* wood".

I like even numbered fairways. None of  this 3-4 for me. I want that club to know exactly what it is, lol.

 

No company has the same adjustability, so having 2 different manufacturers adjustables don't offer the same ranges leading to inflexible options if I, for instance don't get along with their 5 or 7.

 

Just give me a fixed hosel option at 4 and 6 already.

 Fifty years ago boutique club makers produced trouble clubs such as the Ginty. These had higher-lofted  heads with rails and rudders to help the club pass through the rough and pop the ball out. (Back in the late 1800s, the hickory stick era developed the bulldog, a very small headed wood that looks a lot like a modern hybrid).

 

Post World War II, many of the better club golfers carried 1, 2, 3 wood sets - this includes President John F. Kennedy. Some added the 4 wood. In the 1990s, trouble clubs arrived from more mainstream companies. Adams had the Tight Lies, and then Ping and Callaway joined in with an array of standardized fairway wood models, included very high-lofted versions. All three companies started in the 1960s or later. 

 

Basically, the manufacturers preferred to go with odd-numbered fairway woods. Below is a sampling of different fairway wood models from Ping and Callaway to illustrate this point.

 

The 4W, simply preferred by many golfers over the 3W, held its own. Things like a 6W simply fell by the wayside - too much marketing clutter.

Most clubs are adjustable 1.5-2 degrees in both directions now. There really doesn't need to be any 6 woods, you can just loft up a 5 wood.

I still don't like the swiss army knife approach to fairways. Most adjustable woods change the shaft angle which changes the head to hands, unless it's in standard neutral. And that often is not the loft I want.

 

I wear bifocals, I don't need my sensory perception messed with too, lol.

Yep, this is why adjustable heads are even more useful for fairways and hybrids than drivers.

 

if you want a ‘6 wood’ lofted fairway (ie 19.5) you can loft up a 5 wood and have it play with a slightly closed face. Which is good for those who miss right.

 

Or you can loft down a 7 wood which opens the face. Good for those who miss left.

 

My big beef with fairways around this loft is that shafts are too long.

 

But that’s another can of worms.

Exactly. The standard 3-5-7 can become 2-4-6, 4-6/7-9, and little bits between. Adjustable weights mean you can also change the head weight to suit the loft change as well. No sense in making a whole 'nother club when it already exists in the aggregate.

Explain to me adjusting head wait for loft adjustments. I typically just adjust head wait for fine tuning swing weight with length/grip/shaft modifications.

My guess is because there is no "standard" loft for it in todays lineups and the market for something called a "6 wood" is likely smaller than the left handed blade market.
