The USA Ryder Cup team could be a train wreck

The US will try to make it a bomb and gouge birdie fest. The Euros put more emphasis on hitting the fairway first then worry about always making par before making birdie when they control the setup.  But Na and Kisner and Reed can really annoy opponents in match play because they never quit and always seem to punch above their weight so to speak.
Also, DJ and BK would rather go boating than play in these things.

all that being said if the US blows this one it will really sting. Which is what I expect to happen….

Agree 100%......Euros keep the ball in play off the tee and get the ball to the hole on the greens. US play like it's a stroke play tournament instead of match play.

I always like the guys with good short games and who can putt in match play.   Nothing like outdriving your opponent by 50 yards, then seeing him hit it to 15 feet and drain the birdie putt first, it wears on you.....

It just amazes me how during the RC the US looks wooden and the Euros play loose and look like Ben Crenshaw on the greens.....By the way we recently saw Cantley do exactly what you're saying while playing against a couple of longer hitters.

JT's starting to play well again. He's got 2 top 5's in the last 3 tournaments. Tee-to-green he's been one of the best players this year, Top 10 in the following categories- SG: Approach and SG: Tee to Green. He's also top 10 in Eagles/Birdies made. If he putts well he'll be unbeatable at the RC.

Well with these captains picks looks like I’m cheering for the Euro’s haha no Kiz or Reed

And how many winning years have we had since capts pick was adopted?

You could also say the Euro team has enjoyed great success since adopting captains picks in 1985. Since then one side has done considerably better than the other.

Over the years in general I don't think it has as much to do with captain's picks but rather that the Euro teams have simply performed better, despite perhaps being seen or ranked as inferior. But I'd still prefer they have some control over the back half of the team to better account for better players that had an off season or injuries.

This whole Na and Kiz hysteria was never even close to a reality.

Given Na's showing at the tour championship and he's only 3 back from Scottie in OWGR, it was not a huge stretch to see him get the final pick. The rest were pretty much by ranking sans Reed's omission since he's not 100%. Kis was def more of a pipe dream

Is that why Stricker said he didn’t pick him? Reed not being 100%

Yep. Lol.  Or just watch it unfold I guess.  I can’t be a bandwagon fan either.  That’s what swapping sides feels like tp me. But it does suck to feel like it’s lost before it starts.

Na finished #3 in the FedEx cup. I think that is a great achievement.

FedEx cup is a bit of a carnival game. Look at NA's 2 performances on big boy bomber course like they will play at. The USO and PGA NA missed the cuts by a mile. Scottie smashes him accross the board and isn't losing many strokes to him on the greens despite picking up 5plus in approach on NA. Scottie beat Rahm and Poulter this year in match play. Strick knows what he is doing.

Cheering for Europe, as always. But I think that’s a pretty damn good US team. I wonder how the players honestly feel about no Reed on the team haha. I can’t wait for the RC.

If I want to expand on my first post it would be to discuss this specifically. It’s a lot of drama for no reason. Unlike the euros - where you have specific reasons - like tour status - for captains picks the US really doesn’t have reasons for their existence.

That just goes to show how contrived, manufactured, and worthless the FedEx Cup is….

This is not a knock on Na by any means….

Nah, the FedEx Cup shows how players excel when playing for big time cash instead of a worthless little Ryder Cup Exhibition Trophy.....IMO

I have to hand it to Stricker, 6 solid picks.

Surely Jordan & JT play together, Cantlay & Xander have similar games. The other picks give him some good options.

It’s tough if Na, but he probably falls in to the - who do you put him with/slightly high maintenance category.

Now, can he find someone who can gel with Bryson in the foursomes or does he leave him out?  I think Bryson playing 3 matches is Stricker best option.
