The USA Ryder Cup team could be a train wreck

Like I said. We will see right ?  I mean he was paired with tiger. Who played as poor as possible.  He saw Brooks and DJ and that drama , and he got his pairing swapped up last second.  We may never know why or how or at who’s request.  But we know it happened.  All that suggests a team that isn’t a team. One guy can’t cause all that.  Makes no sense.

Spieth made a joke that might be telling last week I think, something to the tune that JT wouldn’t be playing if he wasn’t there? Something like that anyways. Might not be P Reed

Oh I definitely think he has a ton of pull.  Patrick signing his neck was a total D move.  It might be what’s biting him in the backside now.

The mystery is why did we pick a Links style golf course which the Euros are more comfortable on? Why not an American style golf course?

I think they picked the course. Then that dictated Steve as capn.  As if he couldn’t captain outside of the cheese belt. 🤦‍♂️

Wonder if there is  any word on how the “ bunkers “ will be played for the RC ?

I’m Canadian so I don’t really have a team but I usually will cheer for America, but I think I’m sadly going to cheer for the Euros. If Reed was on the team I wouldn’t be, the amount people hate him makes me cheer for him more haha, the ultimate heel. Hopefully Captain Stricker doesn’t lose too much sleep over losing me as a fan…

While it looks linksy, I don’t think it plays much at all like a true links, other than it could be windy. Ground game is not much of an option as you need to fly the ball into most greens. Several forced carries. Likely will not play all that firm and fast.

PGA 2015- 6 Americans and 1 Euro in top 10.

PGA 2010- 5 Americans and 2 Euros in top 10.

PGA 2004- 5 Americans and 1 Euro in top 10.

The ET teams beat the US RC teams on any type of course.  Whistling Straits looks like a links course but it's not a true links.

To provide actual relevant context Sobel should have provided the records of all of the qualified American players for the last 4 RC as well. I'd bet it's not that good. The USA isn't losing Ryder Cup's solely based on the play of captains picks.

It may have been said before in so many words but if one of the captain's primary (and unavoidable) concerns is personalities/egos/feuds then golf is by definition and necessity pushed down the list of priorities, possibly into 3rd or 4th place.

We know Euro players have egos too but as soon as they set foot in the venue (and usually before) it's like a fraternity reunion.

If anyone is bored, head over to Patrick Reed’s twitter account and look at the tweets that he has most recently liked 😂 He and Justine must have been on a mission last night 😂

There would be about twice as many Americans than Europeans playing in the PGA tournament, so even by random chance we would expect more Americans among the top 10.  Roughly 75 Americans and 37 Europeans played in the 2015 tournament.  All 3 winners were not Americans.  Finishing second in the RC is finishing last.

Vijay Singh won in 2004

Martin Kaymer won in 2010

Jason Day won in 2015

So overall not sure what to conclude from past history at Whistling Straits.

Who gets in if Brooks pulls out due to injury? Webb, Reed, Na, or Kisner?

Webb.  His style of play and personality can mesh with anyone.

Na is just too short to play the course that they want to set up for this event.  This thing is going to be a bombers paradise in an effort take advantage of the length off the tee the US will have.

If Reed was going to be on the team, he would have been picked right away.  Its clear that with the 12 guys they have, they already have potential partners already set.

Kohler family (developer/owner of Whistling Straits) has been a supporter of the PGA of America as well as PGA Europe. Awarding the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup to Whistling Straights is a way of expressing  gratitude to the Kohler family.

The US has traditionally done poorly in the Foursomes (alternate shot) they have to avoid any 1-3 morning sessions

Playing best ball in the morning and alternate shot in the afternoon is an option available to the home team. I don't know if that strategy would favor the USA Team but it is an option.

Is that why Stricker said he didn’t pick him? Reed not being 100%

Stricker claimed health questions and not enough recent play as reason (s) for the omission of Reed from the team.

The European courses have been resort style courses since forever and the US team routinely gets thrashed on those as well so, like you said, it really doesn’t matter. Belfry, Gleneagles, Valderamma, Celtic Manor, etc. None are links courses, and Europe dominates this thing. They could play it at a Dave and Busters in Mississippi and still win by 5.

I don’t hate Na, but he’s not had a great record in majors. Only a few top 10s, not sure how he’d do in big events.

The entire narrative that it doesn't matter only started sprouting up after a bunch of whooping's....Just my opinion.

And I don't recall that narrative ever come from the players, just all the experts on forums like this one. It sure seems like they care, win or lose or even trying to make the team. It might not be a major but it sure seems to matter to the players.
