Sports Betting and what happened at The Memorial?

I'm no fan of sports betting.  To me it brings all sorts of possibilities for nefarious things to come into play in the world of sport.  Doesn't matter what sport.  We all know that through history there have been numerous scandals involving sports betting.  The first thing that comes to my mind with what happened at The Memorial is, what IF?  Not saying that's what happened here......but it calls things into a different perspective.  What if it was a false positive?  How much money was on the line in the betting world?  Could it happen?

Another nefarious possibility would be if the "news" of Rahm's positive test and imminent WD was somehow leaked prior to the world knowing.  Imagine the odds on Cantley and Morikawa at 5:30PM on Saturday.  Being 6 shots back, I imagine they were very generous at that moment.  I wonder if there was a spike in betting on PC or CM prior to the official announcement?

Betting on sports is legal in most of world, and has been for years...look at how many soccer teams are sponsored by betting companies...heck, they even have betting kiosks in the stadiums and onsite at the British Open!

I have never heard of any corruption concerning gambling and outcomes aside from some tennis (low ranked players) or smaller sports.  I'm sure it happens on a small scale, but the software is so good these days that strange betting patterns (winning!) get caught and investigated all the time.

As for Rahm, it's no different than any other WD...it just happened that he had a 6 stroke lead.  I've lost plenty of bets after a player has teed off and then WD/DQ...it's part of the game.  I would say, though, that you should be careful about placing "All-In" bets on golf before the tournament...with these, if your player never tees off (Covid test, personal reasons etc..), you still lose.

Would rather waste money on whisky and wimmin as Popeye would say

Tug McGraw disagrees with your assessment of money.  When asked how he would spend his raise after signing an extension with the Yankees I believe it was, he said "90% I'll spend on whiskey, women and good times.  The other 10% I'll probably waste."

I don't bet on others or sports, but will bet on myself.

Yep, it's part of the game.  Like horse or dog racing and the animal with good odds, is WD at the last minute.   Happens more often than you think.
