Hats that don't leave sweat stains.

Anyone know of hats that dont leave that yellow sweat stain where the bill meets the cap.  My hats have been reduced to single usage.

I spray my hat (white) with hot water from the kitchen sink and use detergent and a toothbrush as needed.  You can place your hat in a dishwasher (top rack) for additional cleaning.  Hang to dry.  I'm able to remove the sweat stains on the headband and above the bill this way, making the cap look almost new.

 

Melin hats may not stain as badly due to their material construction, which is designed for water use and flotation.  I've believe they would wash well.

I think it's your HEAD that's leaving that -- not your hat. 😉

Agree with Poolparty.  Take your hat in the shower, or rinse very thoroughly in the sink, before the sweat dries after every time you wear it.  That should help prevent staining--both yellow and the white salt stain from your sweat.

Wash your hats when dirty. I’ve used this method for more than a decade. In fact, I washed a load of hats last weekend. 
 

Coat stained areas or entire hat with Spray-N-Wash (green bottle). Use your normal laundry detergent. I’m a Gain person.  Wash your hats with a few bath towels.  Let hats drip dry.  They will look new!

 

I have some hats I’ve washed more than 5 times.  Washing will not stop them from getting stained. 
 

The dishwasher method never worked for me.

Easy - new hats!

 

I wear them, they get dirty, then they become hats for wearing while mowing the yard, doing landscaping and gardening or hanging with the dog.  It's just a little character.  

 

I do have a few hats I just won't wear unless it is downright cool, if not cold in early spring or late fall, and rarely at that and a couple that will never be worn.  They look great, but live a pampered existence.  Those are the exceptions!

Just get a hat form off of Amazon and put your hat in it and put it in the dishwasher. Does the trick every time.

Bucket and Oxyclean laundry powder. Wash by hand after every round. Hang from bill to dry with these from your shower head arm.

My Melin hats have a moisture wicking layer that keeps them from showing stains, but they are pretty expensive.

do you just put hats straight in washing machine? does it not bend it?

I think you guys are all doing it wrong besides one poster I saw. 😉 I really think the best solution is the no sweat pads you can purchase of off Amazon. I believe they are endorsed by the PGA and MLB. I live in Arizona so trust me these things work and I get like 3-5 uses before I throw out and out a new one in.

With some bath towels. No, the bills are not bent. Experiment with a sacrificial hat if you are concerned about your washing machine.  I own a SpeedQueen with agitator.

+3 for the hat saver product.  This stuff really does work.  That said, if you don't want to go this route then as another poster pointed out use some soap and water with a light scrubbing action with a toothbrush works well to remove any stains.

Cheapest alternative: Use Febreeze on the hat after you are done playing. Smells good, gets rid of the salt stains on your hat. Umpires have used it for years.

I usually wear hats of Dry fit or similar type material and then after a sweaty round I either run the hat under the sink and let it hang dry or soak it after the round. 

 

Just like white shoes, prevention and upkeep are the best way to keep it from getting bad.

During the summer I have multiple hats with me during a round.  I walk and when it gets hot the brim will be dripping after 6 or 7 holes.  All I generally do is put the hats in a sink full of warm water for 30-45 minutes, then hang dry.  Haven't had any issues and I have been using the same 3 Titleist hats for about 3 seasons.  

 

That said, I am extremely tempted to give the "Hat Saver" product a go, but my guess is that the hat will still need to be rinsed to get rid of the sweat smell.
