I'm neutral on Lead Poisoning.  She won a lot with him in the initial stage so to me it wasn't the swing.  And ultimately I blame (or shift the responsibility to) the player for any changes they do or do not make.

Lydia was/is so talented...IMO....she could of had me as an instructor and a monkey on her bag and won just as much in those days.

I was at the 2012 CWO all week...although I spent lots of times watching many many other pros too...Lydia's action and ball striking was so good as a 15 year old gal.

I think it was a shame that Guy Wilson was likely not provided a chance to figure the logistics if he could still be her main instructor with some touring instructor like what Webbie did with Haller and Triggs.

I think BJ got a finders fee🤣 and conned Tina to seek out Leadbetter

Guy was the coach who built Lydia's swing and mind to be such a young phenom.

I also think the golfers of today are OVER  coached.

In 2016, at the KPMG...it was pathetic watching Lydia doing all these stupid A-Swing moves in her back swing on the range all by herself....so unnatural.

Leadbetter was at Oakmont for the US Open.

Sean Hogan was there but spent most of his time with Hee Young Park...on the course and range...Hogan spent little time with Wie.

Tina also doesn't know much about golf...she should not have signed a full bag endorsement with Parsons....only 13 clubs and still be allowed to keep the Odyssey 2-Ball putter in the bag....Lydia was pretty magical with that flat stick.

There's a reason why Tiger still LUV's his old Scotty.

To me, it is more what's natural or how you've been swinging for a certain amount of time.  It's tough to change.

That being said, do you think Ko's swing is better now than it was in the early days?  Let's just assume her swing speed is all due to fitness (may or may not be true).  I think her backswing is still different from the early days but her path is a lot more neutral now than it was 2017-2019 (and like it was earlier).  So she has changed things and is hitting it pretty good.  You could argue her driver is a wash or trading some distance for accuracy.  Interestingly, she has added 8-9 yards from 2014-2015 but that has kept her about 60th in driving rank.  Accuracy has fallen off from 75%-79% (rank 19th-43rd) to 65% (125th).  Like they say, adding 10 yards is not easy.

I've always been neutral on club changes too.  Some people do fine, others not.  Hard to know in advance.  I did notice that recently she dropped the 19 degree hybrid and has a 50 degree GW now.  This seemed to make more sense although it was hard to argue with how well she could hit partial PWs.

I'm disappointed of the weak field at the Mediheal...so many top pros skipping it considering they could have stayed in the same hotel/housing.....take Monday off to do some....(if allowed....don't know the LPGA protocols nowadays)....to do some Covid safe sightseeing/dining in San Fran.

Or better yet...get 3 other gals...have an agent arrange...if possible.....a 4some at Cypress.....limo and dinner in Monterey....and have their loops spend 4-6 hours scouting out and charting Lake Merced GC on Monday.

I would have skipped the Meijer and then headed to the AAC early to prep for the KPMG.

It's ALL ABOUT THE MAJORS.

I agree with the first and the last parts.  This was usually a great tournament/course but has a bad spot on the calendar this year.  Despite the location (right next door), I'm not surprised many bailed though.  And for those that are there, many are probably just going through the motions.

It will be interesting to see how many tee it up 4 weeks in a row.  Or maybe next week will be like this week's PGA tournament.

Lydia and SYK are playing because they are past champs....otherwise I think they would have bailed.

I think Minjee has fond memories of LMGC because she won the 2012 USGA Jr. Girls Am.....starting her rise towards the LPGA.

Alison, Ariya and Lydia were also in the final 4.

This was the 1st time I had really known anything about these gals...GC did a great job covering the event.

Also participating.Megan Khang, Brooke, Annie Park, Yu Liu, Su Oh, Fassi.

I'm shocked Koepka and Dustin are playing this week.....though Dustin is from SC....appearance fees???...are appearance fees allowed on the PGA tour?

But these guys have access to private jets to Torrey.

1) Agree....that's why I like Butch...he works on tweaks on swing mechanics vs. a full swing  re-haul.

2) I think Lydia's increased distance is because she is swinging harder and LOOSE...leading to some BAD SNIP HOOKS deep into the trees, leading to bogeys and doubles.

Lydia wanted Leadbetter to show her how to hit her driver further.....see was getting naturally stronger in her late teens...yet in those years with DL...her driver distance didn't really increase.

I don't care if someone's new swing is "better"...all that matters to me are scores.

The ball doesn't care what your swing looks like at impact.

Look at Bubba, Furyk, Trevino, etc....lousy looking swings but they can play.

Lydia had sound mechanic under the tutelage of Guy Wilson.

3) For a pro with access to fittings and the latest and greatest technology...yes....gaining 10 yards YOY is difficult unless they truly FOCUS on increasing SS....look at Bryson.

I could gain 10 yards because I've never been fitted and play a used $230 M3 and sold the Tensei Blue for $95 and play a free (a friend gave me) made for R15 Fujikura Speeder Evolution S shaft.

4) Pros change equip for MONEY....endorsements.

5) Lydia like many other pros travel with 15-20 clubs....based on course conditions and carrying a spare driver???...likely changes bag composition on a weekly basis.

Lydia can hit a PARTIAL shot with ANY club...she is just that talented.

I've seen her grip down on a hybrid 2" to sautéed a sweet shot 175 yards to 8 feet....her hybrids are more accurate than my 8 iron

The upside to a weak field is that we get to see a lot of fresh faces. Um, and a few not so fresh faces. Lol. No surprise a lot of players took the week off, especially those who played in Las Vegas. I'm surprised more didn't, e.g. Inbee, Danielle.

I'm also surprised that Alison has been playing so well. Hopefully she'll continue the solid play.

I gotta stop picking my favorites for the win. It's a curse.

As for equipment changes, pros do it all the time and few say a word. The majority of pros with a bag contract have a different driver when a new model comes out. The companies spend a ton of dough telling us how much better (different) it is than the previous model, so switching has got to have an effect, even if it has the same manufactuer's name on it. 'Same with irons. How many pros are playing 5 year old irons?

The cream rises to the top.

Alison has the same pedigree as Minjee, Lydia and Ariya as a junior player.  She might have wondered off track the past 2-3 years, but fundamentally she's a sound player.

The thing I learn from watching golf for tens of years is how fickle the game is.  A good player is never too far away from sparkling or horrible rounds.

Yealimi Noh bogeyed four of her last six holes to fall off the leaderboard, but she can still make the cut with a decent round.  Fairway misses and 3  putts continue to bother her, but good golf are there too.

Yealimi seems to be on track to sign a substantial sponsor contract with Curry Brand (Stephen Curry) of Under Armour, but understandingly they're waiting for her to show some better results.

Nevertheless it seems Under Armour has started to promote her on Social Media; her Instagram followers has skyrocketed from 30.900 to 33,100 in one day.

It's ALL ABOUT THE MAJORS.

If it's all about the majors I'm skipping *this* week and playing Meijer as preparation for the KPMG.  I wouldn't want an off week immediately before the major.  And I would feel sorry for anyone spending any extra time in Atlanta next week, it'll be much more comfortable here in Meijerland.

I'm sure a lot of the Korean players are in the field this week for sponsor reasons, and it's certainly convenient for everyone.  If this week was, say, the ShopRite, the field quality would be truly abysmal.

FYI

Found out from another site.

There is player/loop info in the Media - Press Site at the bottom of LPGA.om

Patty T is using Jason H

Lydia's trial loop is a guy who was looping for a PGA tour journeyman pro

Still doesn't disclose who Wie's loop is...I wonder where Matthew Galloway went.

Su Oh's loop is Aussie, Kylie Pratt....I wonder where Duncan French is....C. Kim's BF.

Also found out Kevin M...Anna N. partner is looping on the PGA tour...same with Jeremy Young...Heather Bowie's husband....he use to loop for Minjee.

Few LPGA stick with one loop....Stacy, Shanshan, Inbee, Pressel, Gulbis...are there others?

If some loops are approachable....some are nice and a good way to find out some info.

Leona Maguire seems to have got spooked and can't follow her first round, so we have some new faces. Including Sharlee Hool, as one of our French friends here called her. Plus Yealimi Noh and Patti hovering around the top somewhere. Kupcho, Coleman and Weaver in the picture too. And plenty of time for Lexi, Shanshan and Kang to catch up.

All to play for.

Leona has to have the worst balance I've ever seen in a professional player. Instead of finishing on her left side facing the target she's fighting to stay on her feet. Very odd.

Lydia's driver out of the rough was wicked.

This tournament was a bit strange because it took place after a popular USWO; also, many prominent players withdrew after one round.  But it gets stranger and stranger all the time.

Of the Top-7 players, three ranked #129 or worse when the tournament started on Thursday.  Danielle Kang is the highest ranked, but she only ranked #12.

Danielle could put the tournament away with another -6 tomorrow; she's certainly capable of doing that.

I think Lexi is close too.  She is very steep into the ball, which seems like the club cannot be coming too much from the inside yet her follow through is often across her body, waste high (seems like there would be a lot of clubface rotation/closing here).  Her balance is often all over the place even on good shots.  But she hits a ton of GIRs which is all that matters.

BTW, she had some great pitches in round 1.  I think it goes back to her short game is not that bad.  Unfortunately, she's just been really bad in a few moments that everyone remembers.

In all fairness it's not just the LPGA.

I've never understood why this changes so much as players progress.  As a kid or high ranking am, they are carrying own bag.  It's like the more you advance the dumber you get?  Also, the player has to know how the ball is flying better than anyone else.  I understand the players don't need to be doing the math themselves and sometimes a good caddy can call them off a bad risk-reward shot, but for the vast majority of the shots it can't be that hard yet apparently it is.

Lousy scoring in the AM....windy & cold?

TV never captures it....LMGC looks quite hilly.....wonder how many members cart it.

Most golfers at privates here walk....it never gets too hot here....Capilano is the hilliest of the privates.

It's been years since I played it regularly, courtesy of a very good friend no longer with us who was a member....rest easy Gregg. We used to walk it, but if I recall, it was path only with the carts. It wasn't that difficult of a walk....but we routinely walked courses wherever we played, so maybe I'm not the best to answer regarding the difficulty.
