cleveland black platinum finish removal?

Has anyone tried to remove this finish? Is it a finish you can remove with like clr or one that needs removal by a metal shop?  I tried searching but found nothing about this finish.  I have the putter coming in and wanted to play around especially since it was so cheap.

Why not try all the cheap methods since they're cheap and easy first?

I don't have the putter yet so was trying to find out to prepare before it came in.

I think it’s gonna take a bead blast. If it’s the same as the older black RTX wedges it won’t be super durable to begin with.

so I got the putter in yesterday.  CLR does not work so i'm gonna bet that a bead blast will be needed.

What about Coke? I've seen some say that works.

Could also try vinegar soak and a wire brush.

i'll give the coke and vinegar a try before I bead blast it.  Thx guys.  I also bought caswells stainless steel darkener too.  I like more of a dark gray then complete black so we will see how it goes.

Overnight in vinegar took the black finish off my PM grind, no idea if the finishes are comparable tho.

I've worked with it before and had a tough time getting it even, but was going a little darker than gray. Good luck. I have wanted to experiment with creating oxidation with muriatic acid then torching and oil quenching on stainless.

I’ve had mediocre results with vinegar on black Cleveland cast wedges. The metal finish left over is super uneven. Would prob require a tumble or blast to even it out

Could be right. I'm not sure how industrious the OP is, but a bead blasting setup is pretty cheap and doesn't take up too much room if it's something that you plan on doing to other items.

So I've tried vinegar, coke, clr.  it's a no go. so I will hold off on this project for now till my buddies blast cabinet is up and running since he just moved.
