If you had to have a career in golf...

Not just what you would want to do because of the money, but what are you, with your current skills, most suited for?  

 

(Think hard.   This could range from locker room attendant or fly mower operator to tournament director or pro caddie.)

I'd like to be the tournament director. Specifically the guy who sets up the courses. If I had Mike Davis' job I would make the US Open a little more fair

IT/Communications setup for broadcasting. One of my friends from my college days actually does this for a living for PGA and LPGA tour events. He's constantly flying everywhere even during the pandemic. If i didn't have a family/kids i'd love to be in his shoes but i'd be away from home too much for me and my wife's liking

I enjoy making a few putters, and ball markers and pitch tools ect. So I think I'd lean that direction, maybe club building as well. I could dream up some neat stuff with access to some machinery. Bring moms on board to sew up some headcovers/towels stuff like that.

Probably an agent representing the players for endorsements.  I'm a salesman by trade and love making deals not because of the money, but love the chase in getting the deal done.   The bigger the deal, the better.

I’d just drive the range picker if income isn’t a factor in this. There is no better task in a golf operation than this. Anything involving the golf shop, well..... I choose death instead.

More than one answer for me:

 

If I based it off my current skills as you mentioned in the OP, I'd say that I'd have to be in some form of sales with one of the OEMs, considering I've been in sales for 15 years now. 

 

If I had my pick, I'd love to be an agent for a player or a tour van rep. 

 

If I got to make my dream come true, I'd be a player (but wouldn't we all).

This hit me hard. Spent way too many years in a golf shop. Not sure I'd go back even if the pay was astronomical. But nothing like sneaking a beer or two from the grille and going out to pick range balls for an hour.

Not sure I'd want most jobs in the golf industry, as from what I understand they never have the time to actually PLAY golf themselves. 

However, if there was a job where I could travel the country to evaluate golf courses by playing them, then count me in. Beyond that, no thanks.

Hmmm, I would probably enjoy being a teaching pro.  Or I could be a clubmaker / fitter as I have done a bit of that over the years.  Maybe a research engineer for an OEM.

Working the Tour Van for a major OEM. Gives you a chance to work with the players, travel, see some awesome golf courses, and of course you get access to ALL the equipment!

Although, I kinda like my current quality of life, so I could probably turn my legal career into a player's agent with a little work.
