Cabo or Maui in August? Advice needed.

Looking at going to Cabo or Maui in August to play golf and get away. Any advice. In Cabo we are looking at Pueblo Bonito and playing Quiveria and a few other private clubs. In Maui looking to stay at the Villas on Kapalua Bay and playing Kapalua and a few others. Any help would be great. I have never been to either one.

Average temp in Cabo in August is 94f.

Average temp in Maui in August is 74f.

The fishing is excellent in both locations.

just keep in mind maui rental cars are going for stupid fees because of a supply shortage and restaurants are operating at 50% capacity plus august is one of the busiest times of the year. it might change a little by august but something to be aware of. if you are someone that wants to drive around and sightsee and eat out every night with a big family, might be a burden. if you just want to grill your costco food at your condo and walk the kapalua beach walk down to kapalua bay or ironwoods every day might not matter.

After having to get evacuated inland during a hurricane once, I have a strict rule of no travel to Mexico/Carib during hurricane season.

The weather in Maui is much better in the summer.  Cabo is very hot in the summmer.  We go to Cabo in Jan or Feb.

 

Maui is way more expensive than Cabo.

 

IMHO, Cabo has better golf courses than Maui.

Cabo will be stupid hot in August.  Still an awesome place, just stupid hot!

Agree, Cabo will be hot, I would go Maui if I were looking at the choice.  Both have great gold and great food options with plenty of non and after golf things to do.

Check out the Wailea area (southwest coast) of Maui if you don’t want to stay at Kapalua or Kaanapali. The Wailea courses are pretty good. Obviously Kapalua Plantation is a must play.

Cabo golf is in a different league than Maui. 

Cabo - Quivira, Diamante, Cabo Del Sol, Querencia, Chileno Bay, Cabo Real, Rancho San Lucas, Twin Dolphin, El Dorado, Puerto Los Cabos, & Palmilla.

Maui - Kapalua, Manele, Wailea, Makena, Ka’anapali, Dunes at Maui Lani

 

The problem with the courses in Cabo is most of them are only available to guests of that specific resort or hotel. I’m sure with the right amount of money/connections that would be a different story but for most of us normal people you are limited to just a few courses based on where you are staying.

I have been to Hawaii 3 times in August. Maui August 2019. Temp is perfect. Kapalua is one of my favorite places in the world.

Make sure you eat at The Gazebo for breakfast and if you like Sushi-   Miso Phat is off the chart.. 

Have not stayed in the Villas at Kapalua but I know where they are and the views are unbelievable.

Never played in Cabo but hit up Maui almost every year until the Pandemic. If you are staying in Kapalua, congratulations. You already have a chance to play Kapalua plantation. The Bay has better views and really enjoy that stretch. Keep in mind like others have said is the rental car situation but with you being on the other side of the Island since it is about a 45 minute relaxed drive there you will probably have a rental or Uhaul. Next to you is Kaanapali which has great food and shopping as well as its own 36 holes.  Also Lahaina which offers front street shopping and dining. Great stuff. Keep in mind it is about an hours drive if you want to play courses on the other side of the Island i.e. Makena or Wailea. Love the courses on Maui and depending on the day, it can be a two club wind. With that being said, it is always enjoyable to play there.
