I play the 3 wood with Ventus Red 5S and it has been easy to hit and very consistent for me off the tee.  Hybrids are still easier for me to hit off the deck, but when I do hit the 3 wood it launches high and for the most part, straight.  The Ventus Red is a great shaft and certainly helps get the ball up consistently.

I put a bunch of balls on mine on the range this past weekend. I have a tournament coming up Saturday and I SOOOOOO want to put it in play and let it eat. But pairings and tee assignments came out today and I start on a par 4 with ob right and water left. Driver cannot be played. Needs to be a 250-265 total tee shot. Just cannot risk the the very 1st shot, in play, being on that hole. Gotta go with what I know. Sucks too, the course will require 3wood at least 4 times and maybe 5.

IIRC, you're a high speed swinger. Imo, the stz head with a ventus black (assuming you get on with that profile) would be stellar.

Yeah, I've popped a 9tx tensei blue hybrid. It was too much for me. I think you'll see higher spin than you'd like in that 6x shaft. I'm a big fan of low/low shafts in higher spin heads. I've got a 757 speeder evo2 that's tipped 1.5 in mine.

I'd put money on you in a 7x or 8x black in that stz and it being absolutely perfect.

I have Ventus Black 6X in my driver and play Ventus Black 7x / STZ in 3 wood and it's the best fairway wood I've ever owned - by far.

Ummmm this thing is a cannon…

best looking 3w ever though. Turned it down a notch and it sits perfect.

a hook is my miss with the 3w. Not 1 with this in about 15 balls I hit…

Yep. It's more than a sleeper 3w. It's right there with the best. There's stability in it and I'm not sure where that stability comes from. Mizuno did it right with this one.

The 5w in this club dialed to 16* might actually be the perfect fairway wood.

this 3w loft though is 🔥

First on-course test with the stz. It very well may replace my trusty 17m2. I played up a set of tees, probably about 6500 and hit 3w only. Hit 2 off most tees trying different settings. Std lie and 1 notch open seems to be the one. This fwy seems to have a touch of left bias in it. But flat lie and open face was really working. It's 7-10 longer than my 17m2.

So far I am seeing no left bias. If I want it to go left I have to work to make it do left.

Prob put a heavier shaft in it yet though

It's quite possible I'm just setting up with the face closed. The only thing I don't like about the club is that it appears to sit closed and wants to close when soled.

I had a fitting today for ST-Z fairways. My fairways are currently a Ping G400 5 Wood turned down to 16.9 and a 21 degree Sim Max 7 wood.

The problem I have is that the Ping lacks pop on ball speed and spins a lot, so it doesn't go much further than the 7 wood, which is easier to hit. This means I hardly ever use it and I l have a huge gap between the 5W/7W and driver.

The ST-Z 5 wood at 18 degrees is a beast! I was getting high 140s / low 150s ball speed with my 16.9 Ping and mid to high 150s with the ST-Z (with range balls, should see a few more mph with a premium ball). The ST-Z spun 1,000 RPM lower even though it has more loft, combined with the higher ball speed meant an extra 20 yards and the gapping issue fixed.

What was really impressive was how stable the ST-Z was in spite of the lower spin and how consistent the total distance was in spite of the idiot at the grip end of the stick. Ended up with the Tensei White 70X shaft which is ok but I can see a Ventus Red 7X in my future (the fitter only had stock shafts).

So I picked up STZ 15 deg fairway wood locally. Put it in play yesterday with a Motore X F3 7s and it is hands down the best fairway wood I have ever hit.

Turned it down 1 notch and just hit straight high bombs. I am surprised to see how easy it is to hit off the turf.

safe to say my G425 Max 3 wood and hybrid will be up for sale shortly here in Canada.

now I need to find a good deal on STZ 5 wood:)

EDIT: I found the info. Please disregard.

Two questions. Is the Ventus shafts in these the Velocore version and how much is the factory upcharge? I get no info on Mizuno's website cause they are out of stock. However, I have a guy wanting to sell one, but I want to make sure the price is right.

Thanks,

BT

Just got the 3w and 5w in the stock Motore F3 7s and took them for an initial spin. My signature suggests my long-term plan of adding Ventus but I wanted to give the Motore shaft a good test first. Initial thoughts on the STZ (and some comps with Ping G425):

1) Weight -- A little disappointed here. They're quite light. The 3w is only 207g and 5w is 211g (not counting adapter). My G425 LST 3w was 212g and I liked that slightly heavier feel. I can always add head weight but it's more complicated with Mizuno than with Ping.

2) Looks -- Perfect. Premium look, nice shape, cool aesthetics. The overall footprint seems perfect to me with both the woods; I did not think they look big, even though their measured size is larger than some brands. The 5w certainly looks sleek enough to play out of rough but large enough to feel confident off a tee.

3) Loft/Lie -- Despite what some have said (that the woods have a lot of loft and sit closed), I found neither of those things to be true. This stuff is in the eye of the beholder, but to me the lofts looked fine and they sat pretty neutral. The lie angle in the standard position, however, is very, very flat. This is part of what's appealing about the Mizunos, but this was overkill for me. I was getting a lot of heel strikes until I got acclimated. I will play around with the settings and will try a more upright setup.

4) Feel -- Out of the middle, excellent. As good as anything I've played. Nice blend of a classic and more modern feel -- a bit like a blend of the Titleist 917F2 and the Callaway Maverick.

5) Shafts -- I expected the F3 to feel whippy and to launch too high. I didn't experience either of these things on the initial test. Launch was actually a little low (I was hitting off a mat without much cushion) and the shaft held up no problem. I usually play Ventus in an x flex. Oddly, the feel of the Motore was almost a bit rigid. This could be because I was not swinging as hard as usual that day and perhaps also because of the lighter heads of these clubs.

6) Performance -- In terms of distance, very good numbers overall. In line with the G425 with a little more rollout. I was not able to measure spin, so that's TBD. I would like slightly higher launch, but ball speeds were very good. Forgiveness was also good, but there is definitely a bigger drop-off in feel when you don't hit these out of the middle. The G425 has a more consistent feel across the face. With the Mizuno, it's a little more apparent when you're off center, but the feeling out of the middle is far more satisfying than with the Ping.

Overall, happy with them and will be doing more testing in different settings and possibly with some added head weight.

After playing a few rounds with this I love it even more.

I was planning on putting a ventus black 7 or 8x in it but I don’t think I am going to now.

mine has a atmos black TS 6x in right now. On paper, with my swing speed, you would think this would be to light. But wow, it actually is working very very well.

going to stick with this for now I think.

i have mine set to 1 degree lower loft and the flight is perfect! No lefts either which is my miss with the 3w.

I can draw it if I need to.

I need to get mine swingweight checked. I'm seeing inconsistency in flight and start line that are indicative of too light swingweight. I had it checked but the person may have not checked it right. Hand checked it against my 17m2 and it feels head light by a couple points.

Looking to order a custom STZ 5W here in Canada. Can any of you, who have recently ordered STZ fairway advise on what you are seeing as wait times?

This probably won’t help you since you are doing a custom order, but I went for a fitting at Modern Golf in Richmond, BC and was able to take it home that day cuz they happened to have it in stock. I’ve never had a 3w and wasn’t planning on getting one during my full bag fitting, but the numbers were so good on the Trackman I pulled the trigger.

it’s been awesome on the course in the 2 rounds I’ve played since. 245-250 yards or so and dead straight with a small draw. My 7 iron (35 degree MP-60) goes 160 yards or so.

Still bagging my ST190 Driver and 3 wood, absolute favorite driver I've ever played. Not really even considering the STz driver as I see no reason to replace something that is working so great for me but am intrigued by the STZ 3 wood and thinking about adding a 5 wood and ditching my hybrid.

Anyone who has played both ST190 and STZ fairway woods, what are your thoughts? I hit the STZ 3 wood at PGATSS in the bay and could not see any appreciable difference, but hitting indoors on trackman is far different than playing on course.

Any input is appreciated.
