extending to original length.

I just bought a used Sim Max2.  The original owner butt club the original shaft 2 inches.  Will I be ok if I extended the shaft to it's original length.  I know the seller and the butt cut was done by a professional club maker.  Thanks for your answers.

I would say you could try it. I know with driver you don’t want to extend too much, but I think you’d be ok with 2 inches. Anything over that and I may not be comfortable with it.

How fast is your swing speed?    How smooth or aggressive is your transition?

 

There is some disagreements among various builders but my opinion is that it's best to follow the recommendations of the people who design and make the extensions.

 

With a really good quality extension that is properly installed, 2" extension is probably going to work well for anyone who would typically fit into a stiff shaft or softer.    For higher swing speeds (although depends on the transition as well) 2" might be pushing it.

Of course, you also want to make sure he didn't do something to increase the head weight that can't be undone (like hotmelt) otherwise the swing weight might become too heavy.

I swing 115+ and have a hard transition. 

 

I've shown posts on here where I've used 3 inch extensions on driver shafts. They were in play for well over a year with no issue. 

 

You need to prep correctly or it won't work. Also, the extended needs to be a snug fit. I like to get an undersized extension and build it up w mesh drywall tape. I'm fully against turning down an extension or trying to enlarge the butt end.

I’ve extended fairway shafts back to driver length on a couple occasions without ever having an issue. Approximately 1.5-2”. My SS is definitely lighter than yours, ~105-108, with a relatively smooth transition. Gamed a driver for nearly two seasons and you wouldn’t have ever known it had an extension in it. I’ve never been a big fan of the manufactured extensions though, so I’ve always made my own by chopping up an old graphite shaft. If I was extending a club for someone else, I’d probably just buy the extension, but for whatever reason, I trust the graphite extensions I’ve made more than anything I could order.

I would personally not play with a two inch extension. It's an extra point of failure and the shaft would probably play a little different

Considering the stiffest part of the club was chopped off  you might feel a much softer  section under the grip

It won't, nor would you feel the difference. It's okay if you wouldn't do it, but stop trying to refute what has empirically shown to work. People like you are the reason crazy theories get spread around here.
