Bushnell Tour V5 Shift issues?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me, or have Bushnell's gone waaaaaaay down hill?

Anyway, I'm on my second V5 Shift. The first one seemed find at the house after it was delivered. Get it on the course the very first time and it will not pick up a yardage to a flag. Just won't. Let a buddy try it a handful of times to make sure I'm not crazy and he can't get it to work. If there's a flag with trees in the background it picked up the trees every single time. I did get it work a couple times to a flag from around 100 yards, but that's it. Just got the replacement today so I'll see how it works to a flag this week sometime.

Anyway, the question at hand. Does anyone of the Tour V5 Shift and have the metallic rings inside optics holes on the front rotate? If you take your finger in there and move them around it's almost like they unscrew about a half a turn or so. They don't seem so loose that they want to come out or anything, just move about a half circle. Anyone else's do this? I assume it's fine either way and the device will work, but just seems sloppy.

Wish I had just went with something cheaper and still might. I can sell this one for what I paid and just get something like a Golf Buddy that will suffice and save my wallet.

I just got the range finder and it’s a complete pos. I cannot get the flag, like you said, with anything in the background and it’s actually giving me wrong yardages. It’s insane!! Going back to my v3. I’m sure I’ll be blamed for user error by Bushnell but I’ve been using bushnell rang finders for 15 years.

I am also on my second v5 first one won't work after a couple of months, such as wrong yardages. I am having trouble with the second one. Seems to be it doesn't like cold weather!!! Struggles locking on to pin or anything for that matter when it's cold. I have to put it in my pocket for a few holes to warm it up. Shoddy at best from a once reputable brand.

I have a Bushnell Pro X2 that won't pick up a flag either. I have a Leupold GX 2i3 that is even worse. Conversely, my several-years-old Costco Caddy Tek and a decade-old Nikon are both solid in this regard- always lock onto the flag the first time.

I'm in the market for a new rangefinder and it won't be a Bushnell or Leupold.

I want an am willing to but the v5 shift as it checks all my pockets.  That said. Think I’m gonna go Tectectec klyr as it’s been given rave reviews and is sub $200.

My son plays D1 golf and was given a Bushnell V5 when he arrived at school.  He had me bring him his old V3 as he had issues with the V5.  He swears the V3 is Bushnell’s best.  I’ve been getting along with an app, but miss the V3.

I have a pair of V4's - one slope, one non-slope.  They replaced earlier model Bushnell's. Neither have given me any trouble. Fast, accurate (when compared to each other), and reliable. Plus, they were the last models to come with the "skin" covering accessory which aids weather resistance (though neither are rated waterproof).  They were both manufactured pre-Covid so I wonder if that matters (are newer models built in China)?  I treat mine fairly gently, but they're used quite often. Never stored in extreme temps or trunk for long periods.  I wonder how many complaints are from abusive users?

Maybe was a bad batch, I have the V3 and V5, my V5 is in the bag currently, "knock on wood", it has performed perfectly for me, no issues at all...I know Bushnell has great customer service as well, I emailed a question and they replied and sent me 2 batteries and an additional divot tool, very cool from them, the question had nothing to do with the V5...

Bushnell quality and CS has just pushed me away.  I moved to precision pro NX9 and then NX10.  No doubt the quality doesn’t feel as good in hand but they CS had been Johnny on the spot and made me feel much better about the products.   Just ordered a Tectectec klyr to see if the hype for such an inexpensive device can be as good.

I was considering a V5 but think I’ll just stay with my V4. Touchwood it’s been bullet broof bar the battery bar not working properly - it’ll drop to two bars then suddenly just stop working after a month or two and need a new battery.

My shift also had a malfunction ..the slope feature just stopped working..sent them an email from their site..they sent me a FedEx label and I sent it in..they determined it was their fault and they sent me a new one…pretty good service

Must be nice! Mine didn't work after playing 1 round. Didn't want to take the time to send it back in for about a year after the season because it was an annoyance to do what they wanted and didn't want to be without it for an unknown period of time. Regular setting worked fine for yardages but didn't have the pin seeker jolt working ever. Anyway they emailed me back saying the slope switch shorts out when flipped to it and doesn't work because it got wet. Well that's interesting because I never once had it in the rain when playing or had it by any water whatsoever. Their site also said it's supposedly water resistant. They won't do anything with it now but made sure to give me a 20% off coupon. Absolute trash customer service. I really liked the rangefinder and was excited to use it after waiting years to finally get one. Now I'm torn on ever wanting to support their company.

My V5 Bite just stopped working.  The eyepiece no longer turns so you can't focus.  Of course it's 3 months outside of the 2 year warranty so I got the standard 20% off of your next purchase offer as well.  Thanks Bushnell, like I'm going to invest more money in your POS equipment that only lasts for two years.  Is anyone aware of some DIY information to try to fix this issue?

I had a V5 with slope for a little while (left it magnet to cart) and now it’s gone. While mine worked fine I actually preferred the V3. It was easier to lock on pins for me. I thought it was because the V5 was a little too lightweight and I couldn’t hold it steady but maybe it just doesn’t lock on as well.

My son who plays school golf has my V3 now so trying to decide on a new one or wait for V6.

Overall, my Tour V5 Shift has been very, very good.  There was a time when it didn't work.  I simply took the battery out and cleaned the leads with a Q-Tip and alcohol.  It worked flawlessly after that.  It's very quick in getting distances and the magnet is the best thing since sliced bread.  The battery lasted a full year or roughly 150 rounds.

My only real gripe is the battery cover.  I knew I would eventually break it and I did exactly that when I replaced the battery day before yesterday.  I ordered a new one from Bushnell for $6.99 shipped.  The tab is very thin plastic.  I'd like to see it made out of aluminum.
