2021 US Open

13 years after last hosting, the US Open is back at Torrey Pines. Bryson DeCheambeau heads into the event as defending champion having won by 6 shots last September at Winged Foot. Top level golf was last at Torrey in January when Patrick Reed won the Farmers Insurance in controversial circumstances. In going from an inland course in the East to a cliff top course on the West, the visual differences between the course will be stark but firm greens and thick rough will surely be the order of the day.

Defending Champion:-

Bryson DeChambeau

Notables:-

Dustin Johnson

Justin Thomas

Jon Rahm

Collin Morikawa

Xander Schaufelle

Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Reed

Tyrell Hatton

Brooks Koepka

Rory McIlroy

Jordan Spieth

Phil Mickelson

Basically pretty much everyone you would expect to be there, is there.

Course:-

Torrey Pines Golf Course, South Course

Par 71

7,698 Yards

Purse:-

$12,500,000 with $2,250,000 going to the winner!

Great to see Jon Rahm has been cleared to compete this week after returning two negative Covid-19 tests. He's a bit of master around Torrey Pines & this is the perfect course for him to break into the major winners circle. Hope he has great week after his agony at The Memorial.

Rahm has to be one of, if not the favourite. Good record around TP and playing some incredible golf as shown by his first three rounds at Memorial. I am sure that he will win some majors before he is done but there can’t be many that will set up better for him than this one.

Hopefully weather cooperates and it will be Father's Day golf with family followed by U.S. Open! Can't wait!

its going to be hot in SoCal this week, temps in the 90's , so expect San Diego daytime temps in the 80's, they may get overcast in the morning but it might get very warm during the day and they will want the off shore breeze

I know people are lukewarm on Torrey but I'm excited for the tournament. No clear cut favorite and a lot of guys in pretty good form. Plus prime time golf.

Must admit, I am in the camp with those that are not overly keen on Torrey. I did think was it a case of familiarity breeding contempt but that doesn’t seem to work with Augusta or the likes of year in year out courses on Tour like Riviera. Not sure what it is but it’s a US Open so I would watch if they played it at a dump or even Erin Hills again 😂

I'm with you, Matty. When I lived down in LA in the 70's - 90's, during the summer, my golfing buddies and I would routinely sojourn to La Jolla after work on Friday, sleep in the parking lot, and do the first out thing on Torrey North & South. Played both tracks too many times to count. At no time did I ever think to myself or aloud say..."hey, this would be a great course to hold an Open on". I still don't.

But thanks to USGA's recent push to contest more of their championships on public access courses, and Tiger and his win in '08, this place will be in the rota after we are all dead and buried.

Logistically, facility-wise....it's a good choice. But that course, as enjoyable a spot as it sits on, is NOT a quality major-caliber venue.

That all said, there's nothing I enjoy more than to watch the best play on courses that I'm intimately familiar with. For me, it gives the event more of an appeal than usual.

My $.02

This course produced, IMHO, the most riveting US Open the past 40 years...I can't recall another one that was so compelling over the final 36 holes (plus playoff).   And, there will also be great drone shots..which is nice.

As someone who has gotten into soccer (European mostly) the last decade, my main criteria for sporting events has changed...drama and tension is by far the most important factor of watching sports...one reason I can't no longer watch an NBA until the 4th quarter, and MLB has completely dropped off my list (at least until October).

    • APPLY NOW: L.A.B. Golf MEZZ.1 Putter (Early Access) Member Testing! 10 Testers Needed!
L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. GOLF, their newest Lie Angle Balanced design, ahead of it's January 2022 launch!

About The L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 Putter
MEZZ.1 is our new mid-mallet putter that’s fully CNC machined from a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum (body) and 303 stainless steel (midsection) to create our best-feeling — and we think best looking — putter to date. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?
      2. Handicap?
      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
