Ha, we had that one.

 

But as a kid in my room, had this b&w, 13”, beauty with a wire hanger for an antenna. 
Watched the greatest moments in sports on that and, you know, even with the insane TVs we have now…

 

I never enjoyed sports more that watching a summer Yankee game on that thing in 90*heat with no AC and drinking 5-Alive out of the carton!

A buddy and I have a little wager going during the US Open. I made an off-handed remark in jest that the telecasts will name-drop Tiger at least 100 times over the 4 days. His remark was that the guy isn't even playing this week, that it's crazy to think they'd even come close to that figure....then backed up his stance by putting a $100 bet out there.

We used to go to my grandparents almost every Saturday night.  Canucks know that was hockey night.  And back in the early 80s, you didn't see Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers too often.  One Saturday, they are in Toronto, so on TV.  No problem, the adults never watch TV when we are there.  Except this Saturday they decide they want to watch Tommy Hunter or whomever(Canadians of a certain vintage will know who he is) on the big color TV.  So I have to go up in an upstairs bedroom in a farmhouse, watching through the snow on a black and white TV to see this.  

 

Kids today have no idea how easy they have it.

I had a little black and white Motorola in my bedroom as a kid and into college that was the same as occasionally showed up in Mary’s apartment on the Mary Tyler Moore show. We didn’t have a family color tv until I was in 8th grade.

I could be wrong, but I believe the ball doesn't carry the same there as it does other places.

I remember when in the back seat on a long trip just trying to keep my mind occupied and thinking (theres the key word ; ) how insane a miracle it would be to watch TV in the car!

 

Now kids can actually watch TV in the car….
 

And do less thinking and less need for exercise of the imagination.

You have to remember NBC didn't know they were covering this until pretty late in the game(relative to the planning that goes into things like this).  

 

They have contractual obligations to the olympic stuff, and they couldn't get everything moved.

Roku has a USGA channel/app.  They were playing featured groups up until just now.  IIRC it's also on a few other streaming platforms.  For free.
