No, I'll be there on Thursday, Friday and Sunday as well.

If you don't drop a "Go Bryson!!" at Koepka, I will be seriously disappointed!!

Serious question: do some of you guys like anything?

The worst words imaginable........"And now...let's go to Jimmy Roberts"

I couldn’t stop laughing at this…

I guess I am different in that I think Torrey is a better test than almost any other course for a major.  The routing means you get different wind for shots.  There are 4 really good par 3's with significant elevation change and a great risk reward par 5 finishing hole- counter mounded greens with subtle slopes that are the hardest to putt from 4-8 feet on tour. And the length means they can force you to use driver more than the average course.

That’s a good way of putting it Hank. A massive green space with some nice views over the ocean. All I can think of is the Par 3 hitting back to the ocean and the pond in front of 18. The rest not so much.

Isn't that the case with lots of courses, especially parkland courses?   When I think of Winged Foot, for example, I think of the stately clubhouse...I can't tell you about any hole except #10...and that's mainly due to the media.  Or Oakland Hills.

Most golf courses need to be seen in person to really appreciate the holes...just ask anyone whose been to the Masters.

I would doubt that since the Winner of the previous year plays with the US amateur champ and a current major winner

Dont doubt anything - usga and the tour are desperate to get any attention possible. Their fake Brooks - Bryson rivary is the biggest joke in golf.  Causals dont care or knows they exist.

I did not think the USGA would be dumb enough to upend years of tradition...but what do I know haha

Got to agree. The R&A offering only 3 spots at each FQ venue is contemptuous. Cut the past champion category down to those who remain competitive, ditch some of the other random exemptions and make it at least 5 at FQ.

This is the only area where the USGA have the edge over the R&A though!

Nah. The R&A love them some internal OB. Wouldn't fly with the blue blazers.

I have had "Live From the US open" on in the background during work today. They have spent the last half-hour all on gambling odds. Call me crazy but how about we talk about some golf?

Mark Rolfing looks very uncomfortable providing gambling tips. Just my opinion

Lol tradtion? Its all about money and ratings. Yes you know nothing. USGA is desperate - ratings and interest is at an all time low. They need the Brooks and Bryson fake rivalry to attract attention.

Yes at the end of the day the answer to everything is money. However, like I said in my first point, the winner of last year's open always plays with the Amateur Champ and a current year winner of a major. If you did not know that, well maybe you know less than me.

Also, if you think interest in Golf is at an all time low, well you must have been in a coma for the last two years because that is straight up laughable but nice trolling champ, keep it up!

I think the USGA gets an out this year because Strafaci won the US Am *before* the Open was played last year.  Think he would have played with Woodland or someone last year?  I could be off.  I just know Colt Knost was mentioning how he was the last time the USGA had the opportunity to do something different because he had turned pro and forfeited his spot.  I think something similar is in play here?

As to your last paragraph, I agree when it comes to playing golf, but has interest in the professional game increased much?  Two very different things.

the GC is going to be just like ESPN was to the sports books when it comes to football handicapping...ESPN is notorious for giving out lots of misinformation, so the masses bet accordingly, I see the same happening at the GC

Torrey Pines ... everytime I see it I think yeah its nice, but a week afterwards I cannot remember a single hole. Have seen it on TV nearly as many times as PB, PB I can pretty much recite except for the boring 11-16, but on Torrey I do not remember a single hole. No holes with an identity, like.

That's a very good point.  I can visualize every hole at Pebble, and only a couple at Torrey.  It is pretty nondescript as a major golf course.

Agreed. I think Paige Mackenzie just reported that James Harden's status just changed from "Doubtful" to "Questionable" for his 7:30 Tee Time tomorrow at Torrey

Exemptions are here, the rest got in by qualifying:

Click on the "by player" link on the right.

it still shows Phil having special exemption..  I didn't think he needed it, since he won PGA championship..

Who got the special exemption?
