You might be surprised.  Some of these temporary security people hired for an event do not have the first clue about golf unless there are windmills and clowns mouth.

Like that video Jack posted a couple years ago of some guy at the Augusta gate asking to see his badge?

I never warmed up to Rahm when he arrived on tour. No particular reason just not a fan. That's changed over the last couple years and culminated with the heartache of Memorial. Now this and his awesome acceptance speech. No doubt he's gained lots of fans. Great for him and the game.

It was never really his temper for me since I get pissed off on the course too sometimes. It was the stories of how he treated people "beneath him" so to speak. Hes definitely matured over the past few years and I'm sure his wife and new kid have a lot to do with it. He also mentioned a friend of his that was a reporter in Spain and the guy gave Rahm s*** for being a baby on the course. I think all these positive influences have helped him grow. Im a Rahm fan now too.

I love that Jon Rahm is the 2021 US Open Champion.  He withdrew from the Memorial Tournament with grace and won here with vigor, focus and grace.

Maybe now people will stop talking about Bryson's prodigious length and how he's going to dominate everything. Looked like me out there on the back 9. Nice 44. Leading after 9 then a T-26. No lab or concoction is going to remedy this.

there is no Plan B in the bag...if the lines fit his numbers then he can bludgeon a course to its knees , and what's even worse is the USGA has set up the course twice now for a guy like BDC to bomb and gouge their way to the trophy, they are lucky the golf gods had other plans

Im hoping with Mike Davis departure the USGA takes some fresh eyes to what they want their Champion to be like

Torrey had no bend to it this week, it was like playing on a freeway

Not sure I understand the problem or the freeway analogy. Brooksie failed, he didn't "bludgeon" the course to its knees and didn't win. The champion doesn't look like him, the champion looks like John Rahm. A deserving champion that should look fine to the USGA and the rest of the golf world.

Woeful performance by Rory and Bryson, how can you go from having a great chance to win the open after nine holes to be miles away by the end of the round.

Bryson needs to learn course management instead of thinking he can just overpower every course, doesn't work when you have thick rough just off the fairways.

Rory just seemed to lose concentration, careless mistake after mistake.

Mike Davis stopped setting up the US Open layouts after 2018. John Bodenhamer has set the courses up since 2019 with a huge assist from Jason Gore as a USGA Player liaison.

Watching that, I feel sorry for Louis. Rahm is a deserving winner; someone who has played as well as he has for as long as he has deserves a major. At the same time, playing that well in so many majors means Louis deserves another.

I can’t help thinking that Louis’ mistake was trying to force a birdie on 17. That was a hole to par first and foremost (a birdie would have been a bonus)  and 18 was the birdie hole.

Extremely pleased for Jon Rahm, the way that he handled himself over the past few weeks has been an absolute credit to himself. It never seemed like it was an absolute just in iron certainty that he was going to win but it never seemed like he was going to shoot himself out of it like some of the others.

It's not costing NBC anywhere near a billion dollars. That was the value of the 12 year contract Fox had signed with the USGA in 2015. NBC is only paying 1/2 of the value of the contact for the final 7 years of the deal. Fox is still paying the rest.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/06/29/us-open-reportedly-will-move-nbc-fox-pulls-out-contract/

NBC will pay just under half of the rights fee for the last seven years of the contract and will show Thursday and Friday rounds of the Open on Golf Channel and Peacock, NBC’s on-demand streaming service that will launch July 15. Both NBC and Golf Channel are owned by Comcast.

Ok. So they’re paying “only” 500 million. My point was they paid a sh*t load of $. So there are gonna be A LOT of commercials! 🤪

Pleased for Rahm.  He needed that 1st major to elevate himself to the next level.

Very measured with his comments after too.

There are some great golfers around, but I place Rahm at the very top because he seems to thrive so much under pressure.

When Rahm needs to make a putt, generally I expect him to make it.  When Rory needs to make a putt, generally I expect him to miss it.  Both hugely talented.

I think Johnson is the player that, at his very best, rivals Rahm as the best in the world.

Koepke is also right there.

I think Bryson would be a much better player if he just stopped trying to smash the ball as hard as he can.  Don't care who you are, that is not ever going to be consistent.

That's the top group, I think:

Rahm

Johnson

Koepke

DeChambeau

McIlroy (except he is no better than a good amateur putting from 10ft in)

Above all though - pleased for golf - because I think Rahm is something special in terms of his character/personality... not all good, not all bad.. just interesting and exciting to watch.

Great win by John Rahm.  He played well.  He's a good man.

Bruce missed a bunch of putts or would have been right there.

Rory was good for TV but alas he couldn't meet the challenge.

Louis will always be the bridesmaid of golf.  On the plus side, he'll make a Rich Lerner list.

Bryson's wheels fell off.

Jordan has a 9:30 am appointment with Liz and team this morning.

"Progress is right around the corner."

Totally agree. Louis getting a lot of criticism on here for coming second again. Apart from the tee shot on 17, he didn't do a lot wrong; He went into the final round tied for the lead, shot even and lost by one to a guy who finished birdie, birdie and tied the low round of the week.

If you want to call choke, Bryson, Rory & Henley were the ones who crapped their pants.

I don't think Rory choked, because we all knew (him included) he was not gonna win, and not even try to, so guy met the expectations imho
