PXG Discontinue Driving Irons

My2Dogs

Recommended Posts

So I had gone on the PXG web site as they have had some prices being slashed and wanted to look at the current/lastest version of driving irons.  The Gen2 X driving iron is the latest version and they only had a couple left in stock, I believe it was a couple 5i.  So I sent in a question to customer service asking if a new version of the driving iron was coming out soon.  I was hoping so and PXG’s slogan is they won’t come out with anything new until it’s better than the previous model.  I thought that’s why it’s taking so long as the Gen 2 driving iron is a beast.  Customer service person emailed me back and stated that PXG was discontinuing the driving iron from the line up.  I hope he had incorrect info or he just meant the Gen 2 was being discontinued.

anyone heard anything different or if a new model is on the way?

I have also heard that utility's will be discontinued and only for tour players.

IMO their utility is the best out there. Hot off the face and very easy to control. 2i is an absolute beast. Currently have the 4 utility weakened 1* to replace my 4i. Easiest club to hit in my bag

Exactly. I love my 4I driving iron.  Easiest driving iron I’ve ever hit.  I wish/hope they change their mind but in the meantime I’m going to try and find a u510 2i.  Also looking for a 2i driving iron from PXG but not many out there currently.  I think people realize PXG won’t be making them anymore and either holding on as prices might go up or they are just using them because they are that good and they can’t find anything better to replace them.

You can always use their XP irons they’ll work for driving irons

It’s what I started with Gen 1 XP 3i.  Was good but the X was just a little better.  Did get a U510 this morning off the BST but still holding out hope PXG decides to sell the X again but maybe with a new model that’s even better than the Gen2.

Callaway, Ping, TaylorMade, Titleist, Mizuno, Srixon... all the bigger volume OEMs offer driving irons, crossovers, etc.

PXG has loyal users, but niche market presence at best... Parsons and crew probably figured it wasn't worth the hWord not allowedle of trying to chip DI market share from biggies. Of all the subdivisions of golf clubs, I'd say the driving iron/crossover creates the lowest volume of excitement. Well, at least among people who have to buy their own clubs.

Too many people are learning they can take a GI 3i or 4i from last cycle and reshaft it for DI use.

Crazy thing to do as they are the best on the market but I understand it’s a small segment of the market, glad I bought some backups when PXG had their fire sale not long ago.

I saw a Gen3 DI in one of the Korn Ferry photos for Garrett Reband.

The rep told me that they were discontinuing for the public to buy but still doing it for their PGA and I would assume LPGA (don’t know if any of the women who signed with PXG play a DI or not).  That’s why I was puzzled.  If they are still making them and if there really is Gen DI in a players bag, then why not sell it but only sell pre orders.  That way you don’t make more than needed and lose money.  Just make what people order and pay for in advance.

I find this interesting.  The DI is what brought me to PXG.  I play a DI at least 2-3 times per round, and a few years ago I started searching for an upgrade from my Ping Rapture.  I literally tried everything, and the PXG was easily the best.  Low, semi-forgiving, bullets. Talk about opening the flood gates.

From a business standpoint I get if, I’m sure they sell very few.  But man, they’re great DI’s.

Off topic, but i'm cracking up at the fact that the profanity filter in the forum software censored the "@$$" in the middle of "hassle" to create "hWord not allowedle". 🤣

Don't know what happened.

Goofiest censorship came on a blog discussion of football offenses. One person suggested it was risky for the Mizzou offense to run I-formation plays. I said it was not a worry because we had both a large running back and a quick tight end who could easily play full back. (I had it as one word). It got censor-blitzed out twice on grounds it was a short, naughty word beginning with f.

image.png.c7fcae33ebde420a6b20c2303c460567.png

Also, in soccer (AKA futbol) the guys who help out the goalie are called defenders, or full-backs.

Heaven help us if we have sports blog managers who have never heard of the I-formation. During the 2021 COVID season, a depleted South Carolina Gamecock ran I-formation with mixed success. The TV announcer said I-formation was an ancient offense that no one uses any more, in part because "fullbacks no longer exist." Guess he has never seen Alabama and LSU in short-yardage situations. (And, I guess that's why he's an announcer rather than a coach.)

Then don't get it.  That combined price of 119 for a really good driving iron is just way too much because of that shipping.  Totally agree.

I'll  just go to GG and get a crossover or something like that for 250 or a gapr for 180.  It is a way better deal because there is no shjpping.  I will ignore  the fuel and lost time in going to get it. No problem.

Makes sense, said no one ever...

Have you called them and talked to a customer service rep? There could be a way around it....

How does that work?  I asked my rep to not use the fancy box and ship it plain.  Same charge.

I agree. PXG driving irons are exceptional, especially off the deck. So easy and butter soft.

Have you tried the ZX utility. It's the closet comparison imo. I have a 4i that I love hitting every chance I get. It's great in any cut.

oh ok.....i just ordered several PXG items from DD and they took less than 10 days from factory to DD in Oregon and then to me....thats lightning quick

Gen 4 irons / 0311 ST irons/ Gen 4 woods / Putters / 0211ST / Milled Wedges .....all were sent out immediately.....there is a 1.5 week delay on the 54Degree Darkness wedges and there is a long backorder for their Hybrid Stand Bag

PXG reminds me of those furniture stores that fly a banner "LOST our LEASE, everything must go !!!!!"   They dont even bother buying a new banner but fly the same one for 7 years.
