Best Kansas City Private Course to Play (Shadow Glen, Hallbrook, or KCCC)????

I'm flying back for a family thing in August in the KC area. If you had to pick ONE of the following clubs to play, which would it be and why? This is strictly for the golf aspect of it (the social atmosphere, etc. is not in play as I'm not joining a club). The three I'm looking at are (in no particular order): 1) Shadow Glen; 2) Hallbrook; or, 3) Kansas City Country Club. Obviously, I can go look at Golf Digest's rankings, but prefer to get input from those who live there and/or have actually played these places. Thanks in advance!

Haven't played Shadow.  I play Hallbrook quite a bit and have played KCCC as well.  Two VERY different courses.  KCCC is your classic Tillinghast, big trees, tough to lose a ball but a great traditional course.  Hallbrook (Fazio) is probably one of the toughest tests in town.  I think it has a great layout and is in great shape at the moment.  Pretty tough to compare them as it's apples to oranges.  I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.  If you go KCCC, make sure you bring some mid calf socks...

Thanks for the feedback. I am sort of leaning between Hallbrook and Shadow at the moment.

KCCC you have to wear socks above the ankle, some stupid old rule they keep for some reason.

 

Would recommend Shadow, shouldn't be any problem to get on through your club.  I'm not sure Hallbrook is even allowing unaccompanied guest play currently, and KCCC will certainly be weird about it (depending on your home club).

I am able to get on any of the three, that isn't the issue. Just trying to get an idea of which of the three most recommend.

I have played all three and hands down Shadow Glenn for golf. KCCC has the most tradition and hardest to get on ..afterall thats where Tom Watson grew up.  Holbrook was nice...just didnt compare to SG.

Shadow is usually in pristine condition, I haven’t played it in a few years but it’s a good choice. 
 

hallbrook is tough, but nice.  Never played KCCC. 

 

I’m a big fan of Loch Lloyd since the redesign by Watson.

IMHO:

 

1.  Shadow

2.  Hallbrook

3.  KCCC

 

I really like The National, too.

Member at Shadow and used to be a member at Hallbrook.
