I knew he had a 2 wood in the bag, but didn't know it was a TM.  That's an interesting choice.  Especially for a club that a few years old.  Why not go back to the Phrakenwood.

He's been using the Original One for a while now, it's know Callaway gives him some flexibility with his bag especially for a club they don't have. Now if they did have a mini driver I'm sure Phil would play that but he's at the point he can get some flexibility with his gear, not like Callaway forces him to play new gear like other brands.

The Original One had been in the bag for every event he's played since the Barkley Curry Manning match.

 

Phil is free to wonder off the reservation when he feels necessary and has done so from time to time 

 

He had 3 non Callaway clubs in the bag at the 2013 Presidents Cup

Ping Anser 17 degree hybrid

Ping Eye 2 XG Lob wedge

 

For most of the time in 2012/2013 when the Anser hybrid wasn't in the bag he had a Titleist 980F 4 Wood in the bag he dug out of his garage from the early 2000s when he was on Titleist staff.

He just won the PGA using the older version....

My guess is his contract allows x number of non Callaway clubs. I recall Ping players getting 3 non Ping clubs, likely the same deal.

I think it's been mentioned that if he finds something better he can use it, it gives Callaway impetus to try and come up with an alternative. Ping often have full bag deals, but some players have leeway with some clubs like you mentioned.

No use trying to guess on everyone’s deals. TaylorMade seems the tightest brand yet Morikowa has a deal that Let’s him use Vokey wedges. Finau is Ping through and Through... besides Vokey wedge and Piretti putters. DJ has played the full 14 for a while plus the ball... Tiger is 13, no putter, no ball... Rickey is only glove and ball... Brooks has a Srixon head cover but a SIM driver. There are NO absolutes.

He's playing with the TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver this week at the U.S. Open. Club just hit the confirming list, and I cannot wait for it. I loved the Original One, and this thing looks like a perfect modern take on a classic TaylorMade design. No OEM annoys me more than TaylorMade, and yet they occasionally come out with something (Mini drivers, P790 2 iron, Spider) that can't be ignored. 

 

[I love how his Original One was all blacked out so conceal the non-Callaway logos].

One of the reasons Phil is so entertaining!

As mentioned above, he had the Original One in the bag since mid/late last year and now the new 300 Mini Driver. Pretty interesting given that it seems to sticking around longer than some of his more recent experiments and across two consecutive models.

PING's recent deals are for a minimum of 11 clubs. Finau and Hovland included.

looks like Phil should have kept the Original One in the bag, man did he hit the 300 like crap on Saturday, actually hit his driver a lot straighter, of course he was hitting his irons all over the map as well. Kind of surprised he would switch to the 300 when he basically won the PGA with the Original.

He caved the face in of his OO on Saturday of the PGA, and used a back-up on Sunday.  I am sure Phil tested the 300 before playing in the Open.  Not a blind club choice.
