Best brands for high speed club longevity

Recommended Posts

This year has been rough on the bag, in the past 6 weeks I’ve cracked a G410 LST driver, G400 3w, and caved the face on a Taylormade OO mini driver(which I’ve owned for maybe 2 weeks). Now the 410 was still in warranty(the 425 LST just came in and is awesome). But the 400 3w was barely out of warranty and so is the OO (must be by weeks and TM won’t do anything for me) but at this point I’m sick of buying gear. Should I just be buying new clubs to hopefully keep them in warranty? Has anyone else found one brand that have held up better to high clubhead speeds(hover around 120-122). I love the feel of the new titleist gear but 1 year warranty is a little dicey to me. And “swinging softer” isn’t going to happen, the dicks employee already suggested that haha

How solid you hit your woods?  Do you hit them on the toe or heel or hit it dead center?  The way drivers and woods are made nowadays, it will take quite a while to crack one at your clubhead speed.

You can buy LD heads and hope for the best, or just keep everything in warranty and keep spares on hand.

And as was mentioned, with a high SS you need to be hitting the center or you'll compromise the welds quicker.

Not Taylormade or Ping.  Can't speak for the callaway and Titleist as i've only had them for a matter of weeks but they didn't crack on me in that time.  It's more so the golf ball in my experience that is the culprit.  Of the dozen or so heads I've cracked in the last 4-5 years, they've mostly been on cooler temp days on the range with non-premium range balls.

I have a pretty consistent strike pattern, a slight toe side miss is my prevalent mishit but not duck hooks, still playable shots

I’ve cracked some faces in my day. And I can’t tell you that any  is more durable than the other.  You’ll see failures on all.  TM is particularly hot in the fairway woods. You will see the outline of the welded face on those pretty quick.  But they usually last a while after that outline shows.  .

For what it’s worth. High toe miss is mine too. The higher you miss the more stress on the upper face joint.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

it’s just that I have had and seen more Callaway clubs crack/cave.

Eh.  You just have to find a local shop that will help deal with it and be loyal to them. That’s how I work around it. My shop will usually front me a new head while the cracked one is sent back.  Which I’m sure is a rarity nowadays.  Because of all the big box stores.

id just go for it. It’s a flip of the coin With any brand honestly.  Ping and titleist have been 100 % good aboit replacement for me. Taylormade also 100 % for me but I’ve heard of a guy they turned down recently because it was last years model ( sim 1).  I’ve never cracked a callaway head. But.  I can’t say I stayed with one long either.

Originally the Taylormade OO was supposed to be a backup but I caved it too quick. When you flat spotted your m6 and sim that’s still grounds for a warranty claim right? I’m glad it’s not just me

Only played 1 round with it but man it is sweet. Hopefully not a honey moon phase. But prob my most favourite TM driver to date.

I added a heavier front weight to it when I got it and opened the face to 7.5* loft.

was windy yesterday when I played. Wind didn’t touch it

That's how I cracked on of my drivers.  Hitting 20 range balls with driver.  Huge crack from the toe side in.  I cracked my SIM MAX last year on the 18th hole.  Swung, made a weird noise and it felt awful.  Even my cousin commented on the sound.  There is no major OEM brand that holds up better than others IMO.  The walls are so thin these days, that it's bound to happen over time.  Sucks for us high ss players.

I think cally tm and ping are on par. Plenty of warranty claims and happy customers. My cpo rogue cracked. Sent me a EF no questions asked other then inside 1y warranty.

titleist seems to have a rep of being a pita.

Callaway CPO only have a one year warranty? Or is that one year beyond whatever the factory warranty was

My only experience of Taylormade was with an M2 3 wood which developed a rattle. It was replaced immediately.

Callaway have always done the same. However I was playing with a young pro 2 weeks ago, who said that he received what looked to be a demo club as a replacement for his cracked driver.

I think they are all normally quite good a replacing kit, but are all under pressure with stock at the moment.

I too live this life as I swing in the same speed class as you are and it is just apart of life.  I will cave a retail driver face in within 2 years and a fairway wood in around the same amount of time and all you can do is hope that it is still in the warranty period to get a replacement.  That being said I did get 5 years out of my Callaway XR16 long drive head which was amazing for me but the faces are a bit thicker to increase durability but you will sacrifice a bit of ball speed which is a fair trade off for two and a half times the durability.  So you do have options with drivers by moving to long drive heads but you are screwed as far is mini drivers and fairway woods go.  I have never caved in the face on a hybrid but I did notice a drop in ball speed over time but never face failure.

Since I tend to match specs on clubs I do use "practice" clubs for hybrids, fairway woods so that the life of my gamers are extended because I hit thousands upon thousands of practice balls.  I always buy driver heads in pairs when I find a club I like because I know I will literally beat the face off of it.  My XR16 gave up on life just a few weeks ago and that was a sad day for me as "X" gave me so much joy! Of course I'm going through it mentally as I do have an exact back up head but of course am going through the phase of not using it because I know that it's over once that one dies!! Best of luck though in your search.
