mid pines? Tobacco Road? Pine needles? Dormie club? Pinehurst 2 again?

Yes, yes, yes, probably not available, and yes. Mid Pines is my personal favorite course in that area.  Tobacco Road is a complete departure style-wise from anything else in the area, definitely worth a play.  If you want two additional courses, those two would be my suggestion.

I like the idea of playing a really good course twice on the same trip, as opposed to "collecting" as many different courses as possible.  You'll almost certainly understand how to play #2 much better your second time around, it might be a lot of fun to do it that way.  Or consider playing #4 a second time.

I'll be in that area from 13 Nov through Thanksgiving, staying at my place in Talamore, maybe we'll bump into one another.

Playing Pinehurst 2,4 and 1 in The fall. Looking to play two other sister or nearby courses to round out the trip

missing anything?

You can't go wrong choosing any of Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Road or Southern Pines.  Those are the finest non-resort courses in the area and they're right up there with 2 and 4 as best in the area period.*  If you have a connection to get on Dormie go for it, but if you don't it's not a big deal.

Personally I'd go with two of those rather than playing 2 again, but if you've got the coin and will be back someday to play more of the area courses no reason not to.  Personal choice.

* I'm projecting a bit on Southern Pines, since the redo isn't finished yet - it's just a great piece of land with an already good Ross course on it being worked on by a guy who did amazing things at Mid Pines.  Complete confidence that it'll be great.

If you had to pick 2 rounds where would you play?

My personal choices would be Mid Pines, because it's my favorite course in the area, and Tobacco Road because it's so different and everyone should play it once -- I didn't know anything about Mike Strantz before played it.  It's very much a love-it-or-hate-it course.

Of course it figures that on my next trip the plan is to play Pine Needles, because it's been a few years, and Southern Pines to see the redo.

You really can't go wrong.

One caveat -- if you're trying to fit 36 holes in on a day, there may not be enough daylight that time of year to make the trip to Tobacco Road and it would be better to stay local and play either Pine Needles or Southern Pines instead.  TR is about a half hour drive.

First of all I’d swap out #1 for almost any of the other Pinehurst tracks. I’d say my order of priorities there would be: replay #4 (since no upcharge), #8, #7, #9, or #3.

after that the answer depends on what you and your group wants. You could replay #2 if you’re the type that likes trying a course multiple times and learning it’s subtleties.

If you want to play something truly unique and heavy emphasis on the visuals - Tobacco Road is a must.

Mid Pines and Pine Needles if you want more of the Donald Ross experience.

I love Dormie but it’s private now.

Mid Pines and Pine Needles - The US Open is at Pine Needles next year (Womens) - but how often do you play US Open courses?

This will be 3rd US Open at PN - they also hosted a US SR Women's Open -

Southern Pines will be done in Sept - but most of the work is already finished (Tees, Bunkers, Waste Areas, tree work, Irrigation) I think they are doing 6 greens at a time, keeping the course open.  The redo is excellent...

Dormie is Private

Tobacco Road is gimicky - some like, others not so much -- Visually is it unique, like nothing you have ever played - golf wise, if you know the course, it's pretty easy, hitting areas are wide and greens are large and undulating, but you need to know the distances...

If you got connections - CCNC Dogwood is great and the courses at Forest Creek are very good - but you need to know a guy...

BTW - nothing wrong with #1 - maybe a little short for bombers but some really good holes out there.... 1,4,10,11,12,13,16,18
