Building my own personal golf room

I'm about to start work on the build of my own home golf room just for fun. Theres alot of simulators out there such as Trackman, GCQuad, Skytrak, Flightscope, Foresight etc... I know prices vary from simulator to simulator but for what im building does it really matter which simulator I choose?

The amount of length you have in the direction you hit the ball can play a big part.   Most radar units need anywhere from 16 to 20+ feet between the placement of the radar unit and the impact screen.  And then another foot or two between the screen and the wall.    That's typically about 6' to 8' more than is needed by the camera based units (depending on how close to the screen you feel comfortable).   So if you don't have that much space - or just don't want to use that much space, then that will limit your choice.

The type/manufacturer of launch monitor really depends on budget and what you out want of it. There's a big difference between a GC4/Trackman and a SkyTrak for example. If money isn't a concern, I'd go GC4 without question but ~15-20k is a lot of money. I've had a SkyTrak for about a year now and love it. Great for practice, gapping, and course sim. It won't be as accurate as a GC4 as far as camera based units go, but it's pretty darn close for what I need.

Skytrak or Mevo + will be about the same cost. Mevo + needs about 16 feet, 8 feet from unit and 8 feet to screen or net. Mevo + comes with some courses, works LH and RH without moving. But metal will interfere with the radar. I have Skytrak, but had to purchase the Program with courses.

Skytrak is a really solid option. If I had a large enough room, I'd consider radar based. If I was willing to spend more, I might have considered GC4. But Skytrak is a great value buy IMO.

One thing to keep in mind is what simulator software you want to use. For example, I like The Golf Club 2019, but I don't believe you can use it with a GC4.

If you decide to go high end and have no space limitations, I evaluated TM vs GCQ for months and ultimately decided TM was the no-brainer decision.  GCQ hardware might be slightly superior indoors, but the software and custy service from TM kills Foresight in every way.

I started with SkyTrak, just moved to GC2 with HMT and love it. SkyTrak is great for the price but there are slight delays and a lot of missed shots unfortunately. 

 

If you are still building, I would recommend Carl's Place for the screen set up.

Jumping back in on this. Get a GC2, they are cheaper now that the GC3 came out and I am still really happy with mine.

Also consider the Uneekor EyeXO, which is up there with the GC Hawk, is 10k, and gives you clubface data at the moment of impact. It's also compatible with various simulator platforms like E6.
