Best shoes for big/wide feet

Having some issues with my toes when walking. Any input on the best shoes for guys with big/wide feet ?

My podiatrist says Under Armour or Nike.....any other brands good for walking the course?

True linkswear or ecco probably.  I wear eccos when I walk as I deal with plantar facisitis.  They definitely help.  True linkswear have a wide toe box I think.

I'm pretty sold on New Balance for all walking/running shoes and golf shoes for someone with large wide feet.

I got the "Breeze" model in size 13, 2E (wide), but they also make pretty much everything in 4E (double wide) too if you need that.

They're not the most stylish, and if you're looking for something that looks like a "golf shoe" rather than a sneaker, I don't know options there. But these are plenty comfortable for walking 18...

Depends a bit on just how big and just how wide.

As a 15XW I'm pretty much limited to New Balance or True Linkswear.  I've been wearing NB after picking up several pairs at a discount.  They're fine.  Plenty of room and comfortable.  Like others have said, they won't win you any style points, but as long as they're comfy I don't care much.

If you're not quite that oversized there are plenty more options, including FJ, Skechers and Ecco.

I wear size 9 extra wide (4E) and not many brands make them.  I've had great luck with Skechers and New Balance.  I think FootJoy makes some shoes in my size as well, but haven't tried any.  I haven't had any luck finding any other brands in my size.  It's funny, I honestly just found out about 6 months ago my real shoe size.  I wore 10.5 medium width shoes for over 20 years because that's all that seemed to fit right.  Knowing what actually fits properly has been a revelation.  It's just too bad that so few brands make shoes in my size.  I have a weird shoe size, and I'm a lefty.  I'm missing out on a lot of cool golf stuff, damn it!

just discovered True Links - they are a revelation. The OG will deal with *really* wide feet, but is zero drop which might be an adjustment. I'm going to try one of the less wide models as well as it has a bit more sole support.

I've had really success with the Sqairz shoes.  The extra space in the toe area really helps with comfort.

I have extremely wide feet, they were already wide and now one is even wider due to a medical condition. I’ve had success with all the extra wide stuff- 4E or greater.  Footjoy and new balance seem to have the largest selection. I’m just now starting to hunt these 4Es down. Squairz is on my List to try next.

True Links or Ecco. I need wide with some cushioning. True Links are also known for hugging the ground, so I went with the Ecco Bioms.

There are different flavors of True Links. The OG is "zero drop" - I just got a pair of the OG knit and they are ground huggers - weird at first. I also ordered a pair of the "transitional" drop which should also have a bit more sole and padding. But the toe box width is full win, very much like Keen. In fact the OG is almost too wide for my fat feet, going to add an insole to take up a bit more room.

Have a look at the zg21 boa.. I found the boa wide enough for my clogs.. I take a 4 e in shoes...

Now I just need to find them in stock again as I didn't pick up a pair when I tried them on at the store

I have a pair of  the ecco and they are not the most comfy shoe.. I wear them as it was all I could find that worked for my feet... I tried  the fj in extra wide and they were a no go

Yes, good point. Truelinks drifted away from the wide toe box for a while. Now, they gone back to their roots.

I am a 14 wide and have had great luck with SQUAIRZ.  The toe box is wide and I routinely walk 18 holes 2 times a week in total comfort.  Eccos are nice too but you have to take one of the insoles out if you have wide feet.  I have not had great luck with True as I have a pair with a built in liner and they are harder than cowboy boots to get on.  Just my two cents based on my experience

16EE here, I’ve tried to find shoes for the better part of…well as long as I’ve played golf.  My feet are HUGE and WIDE, I need space in the toe area because we’ll think of flippers.  New Balance has been pretty much it for me…until this year.  I lucked into a pair of Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 2’s in 16W and man these shoes are amazing!  I’ve now played 3 rounds with them, 2 riding and one walking-majority of my rounds are walking though.  These shoes are just plain comfortable.  They are pricey at $180 but I’m willing to spend more because I play a lot and walk a lot, I need the support.

I highly recommend them and am seriously considering buying another pair just to have because it’s THAT hard for me to find shoes that work!

I wear 9.5 extra wide.  4E if they have that width.  Most shoes have too narrow a toe box for me.

I tried everything.  Every brand and model you can think of.  I wore the same Footjoy Contour 10W for years until they were falling apart (by this time that model had been discontinued) because I couldn't find a replacement.

Finally I tried the New Balance 1701.  They look more like normal New Balance sneakers.  But they fit great, and give great support and stability.  I think New Balance may have discontinued that model as well, otherwise I'd buy a bunch of backups and keep them in the closet.

Sketchers has some good shoes in wide widths.  I have a pair of the Go Golf Elite V3 in 10W, and they work pretty well when I'm giving the New Balance a break.

Ecco makes good shoes, but their sizes are odd.  You can get a 9/9.5 (which is european size 43).  They didnt fit right unless I took out the insert, so I had less support.  I also tried the 10/10.5, which were the perfect width, but too long.  You could try them, they are well made and maybe you get lucky with the sizes.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I had 2 foot surgeries last year first one did not fuse right. Pre surgery I already wore a wide now am a double wide. I ordered the Footjoy Stratos in double wide and it was too wide. It is the widest golf shoe I have ever tried. I sent them back and ordered the wide and they are perfect. They are also the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn. They don't look as bad in person as they do in pictures. If you have wide feet or have foot problems this is your shoe.

With all due respect to your podiatrist, Nike has a relatively narrow toe box; I'd be sort of shocked if Nikes turn out to be the answer for you.  IMO, the same thing is true of Footjoy.

It depends on where your foot is wide.  If it's across the toe box, but "normal" to narrow in the heel, try Ecco or Asics.  If your entire foot is extra wide, the answer is probably going to the True or New Balance in a specific width.

Yah, I'm shocked that he suggested Nike

Those suckers have always been waaaay too narrow for me esp in the the toe box

Another vote for FJ

My experience with Ecco has been hit or miss, some are great, others not so much

Been wanting to try NB, but haven't found a pair that I liked enough to buy yet

Also very surprised your doc mentioned Nike. Those are all narrow to me in standard sole. Perhaps they make one wider.

I solved this problem witb Adidas. Plenty of room even in standard width. I have a pair of their Code Chaos spikeless shoes that I wear around the house or for practice. If I need spikes it’s the Tour XT. I’ve been playing Adidas Tours since the first Boost generation.

They also make wide sole versions if needed.

Also like New Balance, Ecco and Footjoy.

Could not get used to TrueLinks and the zero drop heel. That’s an adjustment for sure and I gave them several rounds and then gave them away.

@ggpro, I have also found that Nike (and Under Armor) run a bit narrow in the toe.

While searching this morning, I came across the Footjoy Traditions model.  It comes in Extra Wide (4E).

Also, you probably want to look at a "derby" or "blucher" style of shoe, instead of an "oxford". See below image.  Bluchers allow for more room across the foot.  Oxfords are a better fit for narrow feet.  Took me years to figure out my feet preferred bluchers.

Hey.. check out the Callaway golf shoes.  I wear a 16B.. so it's hard to find anything that is not too wide..the local store always lets me know when they get any 16's in and that is how I came across the Callaway.. it was medium but way too wide for me. might be worth looking into as I understand how hard it can be to find big shoes..
